Panda (Classic) My Purple Panda Parade Progress log

Introduction

Well folks, after keeping it under my hat all week (to avoid any embarrassment if the ebay winner actually collected the car) I have bought the purple panda parade from another user on here, neeny. They had sold it on ebay, and to cut a long story short the winner of the auction didn't collect, so the transaction was cancelled, and I offered to buy it in his place (I had actually nearly bid on the car on the original run but I confused myself and thought it was LHD which wouldn't have been any good to me) So I made the trip to fife (and on the way crossed the forth road bridge and saw the forth rail bridge which is a bit of an ambition of mine) and collected it. It took some getting used to driving! My current daily is a Citroen C2 GT, and the two cars are very very different. I have prior experience driving Fiats, as my first 3 cars were a mix of mk1 and mk2a puntos, and the first car I ever drove was my dad's tipo.

Anyway I digress, I drove it home in blizzard conditions and am very impressed with it! The only thing is that it has sat for a while and the brakes are very spongy (not a criticism of the previous owners, they were extremely honest about the car and answered all my questions, they were very kind and nice people and I hope to see them again, perhaps at a show) The Mohair twin sunroofs were slightly damp on the inside (again, not a criticism, it has been extremely wet in Scotland recently, and there is only so much it can take) not leaking or anything, just slightly damp, so I aim to treat this with fabric water repellant. There are some decals and stickers on it which aren't to my personal tastes, so I will remove these, and keep the ones which are to my taste :) The rear sunroof needs a new strap, so I will need to source one of these, or get my fiance to make a new one if I can get a hold of some leather or rubber if I find they are unavailable :)

I am very pleased with my new purchase, and consider myself very lucky to have managed to get it, the buyer on ebay should be kicking himself! And also I am very lucky to have met such kind people as Janine and Stewart, and to have found a forum with such helpful people. Anyway folks lets get down to business...photos! I apologize for the poor quality of some of these photos, it was dark before I took some of these and it is very cold so my hand was shaking. Hopefully you join me on my journey folks :) The panda is currently in my garage being aired out in an attempt to part dry the sunroofs before I bust out the hairdryer tomorrow :)

that is what i have put on Talon. sadly it is only really good for strait panels. it likes to crack though.

2 years later and i think i'll have to re-paint the whole underside again :(

Hopefully the tackiness and thickness I applied will help those points. I intend to reapply every year though. Can't be too careful living on the coast and indeed living in saltland in the winter!

Alright Cameron.

Just stumbled upon this thread.
Really glad that the Panda stayed within Fiat Forum.

If you need a hand with anything mechanical on the Panda give me a shout, as I'm only up the road, so could come down if required.

Hopefully you'll make to West Coast Rally, would be good to see the Panda again, as I know Stewart & Janine looked after it & kept it looking great.

Anyway hopefully spot the Panda about in Ayr.

Thanks Buddy, I will keep an eye out for your car too

So Dragonman is kindly helping me out with doing the bolt conversion to PTP's wiper linkage, it fell off again the other day and I have had the final straw. (It didn't help that a workmate playing silly buggers lifted my wiper arms before he left work the day before, I had been using chemical metal as a stopgap)

So I used the wiper motor from the sisley as a temporary measure while John does his thing :) And while I was doing it I figured I would make a how to video for youtube :)

hmm your speedo cable takes a rather interesting path. that must be at quite some angle coming out of the back of the clocks :/

i try to make mine sweep around the engine bay.. looks a little more untidy but it puts less stress on the cable.

doesn't help that my speedo cable is about 2 feet too long :/ :D

Its quite taught too I will need to see about alternate routes

Fitted the standard panda blade with the correct adapter to work with the cinquecento drivers arm today, it works excellently though as Dragonman says a slightly shorter blade would look neater. That said the window is being cleared very very well, and in my opinion better than the standard system as I think the cinq arm on the bolt is forcing the blade down to the screen harder :) very very happy all in all :)

I put the bonnet insulation from the Knackered Sisley bonnet onto PTP today, it only makes sense to use it really rather than having it in my shed. Since PTP is my "show car" it also makes sense for him to have one. I will get another one for the sisley of course when I get a new bonnet. Plus, as discussed before PTP has a noisy engine, and this actually does help! I would recommend it as a good upgrade :)

Like the video's. Love to hear that scottisch accent :D .

The Panda won't have any problems with starting by cold weather. The battery can be an issue. There are 2 things what is bad for the lifetime of the battery. Running empty and recharging many times and cold temp. If it's too cold, the battery can't deliver enough power to start the engine.

What I always do, when it's too cold. I start the engine and let it run, till the frozen frontwindow is free from ice. Just heater and blower on and come back in 15min. orso.
But I'm glad I can park my car in a garage.
