Panda (Classic) My Purple Panda Parade Progress log

Introduction

Well folks, after keeping it under my hat all week (to avoid any embarrassment if the ebay winner actually collected the car) I have bought the purple panda parade from another user on here, neeny. They had sold it on ebay, and to cut a long story short the winner of the auction didn't collect, so the transaction was cancelled, and I offered to buy it in his place (I had actually nearly bid on the car on the original run but I confused myself and thought it was LHD which wouldn't have been any good to me) So I made the trip to fife (and on the way crossed the forth road bridge and saw the forth rail bridge which is a bit of an ambition of mine) and collected it. It took some getting used to driving! My current daily is a Citroen C2 GT, and the two cars are very very different. I have prior experience driving Fiats, as my first 3 cars were a mix of mk1 and mk2a puntos, and the first car I ever drove was my dad's tipo.

Anyway I digress, I drove it home in blizzard conditions and am very impressed with it! The only thing is that it has sat for a while and the brakes are very spongy (not a criticism of the previous owners, they were extremely honest about the car and answered all my questions, they were very kind and nice people and I hope to see them again, perhaps at a show) The Mohair twin sunroofs were slightly damp on the inside (again, not a criticism, it has been extremely wet in Scotland recently, and there is only so much it can take) not leaking or anything, just slightly damp, so I aim to treat this with fabric water repellant. There are some decals and stickers on it which aren't to my personal tastes, so I will remove these, and keep the ones which are to my taste :) The rear sunroof needs a new strap, so I will need to source one of these, or get my fiance to make a new one if I can get a hold of some leather or rubber if I find they are unavailable :)

I am very pleased with my new purchase, and consider myself very lucky to have managed to get it, the buyer on ebay should be kicking himself! And also I am very lucky to have met such kind people as Janine and Stewart, and to have found a forum with such helpful people. Anyway folks lets get down to business...photos! I apologize for the poor quality of some of these photos, it was dark before I took some of these and it is very cold so my hand was shaking. Hopefully you join me on my journey folks :) The panda is currently in my garage being aired out in an attempt to part dry the sunroofs before I bust out the hairdryer tomorrow :)

I think I've got similar ahead on our original Panda in the fleet...She was spotless when we got her 13 years ago, feel I've let the side down

Its pretty hard to stop it happening, there was never any proper paint protection inbetween the panels so unless it was coated in waxoil from new you will always end up with rust forming there. Still, its a fairly easy repair, done it on my Sisley and now it is painted unless you look very closely you cannot tell it has ever been touched.

But you're the dogs whatsits at doing these sorts of things :p

Its a shame we are so far apart, I would be happy to have a look at it if you wanted someone to do the work, just the distance is the issue.

One day I might take you up on that. Its a while off anyway, as she'll be a complete restoration eventually, but thats a few years down the road yet.

So as per this thread: https://www.fiatforum.com/panda-classic/343010-tyre-sizes.html

I have been looking at tyre and wheel sizes and trying to track down original wheels. Well to cut a long story short there was a 750l being broken on ebay and the steel wheels were for sale, all 5 with tyres! I had posted them in this thread as I couldn't really afford them when I first saw them, so thought someone else could get a crack at them, but after 4 or 5 days they hadn't been bought, so I managed to (just!) afford them by rejigging finances, I couldn't let them go! They are the 135 x 80 so original for some models of panda (I am not sure whether they were original for the parade, but as per the other thread I think the larger 155 ones had to be specified, though obviously I could be wrong about that. I am also getting two of the little wheel hangers thrown in at the price :) They should hopefully arrive tomorrow. In the meantime here is a photo of the wheel trims kindly sent to me by another forum member. I have paid the pinky panda donation for them of £10, but still have to pay postage costs to the pinky fund also, so that will be coming after payday! Really excited about fitting wheels and trims to PTP :)

I am beginning to think I am cursed (n)

I received the wheels from the ebay seller, and they were exactly as described and I LOVE the skinniness of the tyres and they will look very cool on PTP I have no doubt, but I only received 4 out of 5 of the wheels! :bang:

I am sure this is just an oversight on the part of the seller, as he included two hangars for me, and contacted city link for me, he has been great, but I did pay for 5 rather than 4, dont want my engine bay looking empty! I messaged him, hopefully he gets back to me soon!

I've loved the progress the car has made. You have made it your own and brought it to a much higher standard than we would have been able to. I just need to get my 126 sorted so I can get to some shows and hopefully see it in the metal again.

Aww thanks mate! Glad you like it, I'm excited to see the 126 when it's finished :)

New wheels and trims finally fitted :) I really like the look of them, bit different from the alloys, but definetly nice :) Also I noticed on a couple of photos of other peoples pandas that I am missing the wheel brace! I will need to look for one at some point :)
