After a tough 2009 season Barry-John McHenry from Raheny plans to challenge for the title in the highly contested Dunlop Abarth Cup 2010. After a year of winning trophies in 2008, Barry-John moved up to the premier saloon car category in 2009. He struggled all season with reliability troubles but is sure that 2010 will be a different story altogether. His team, BT Racing, have rebuilt the car over the winter period. “We believe that the team and Barry-John have the ability to fight for top honours this year” said Brendan Travers, team owner. The championship covers a lot of ground this year with two double headers in Kirkistown, Northern Ireland, a treble header in Anglesey in Wales and the rest of the rounds in Mondello Park, Kildare, with a non championship race in the famous Phoenix Park Motor Races.
Barry-John is also planning to contest the newly formed Irish touring car championship (ITCC). This is a new and exciting championship. With more open regulations Barry-John’s car will be down on power compared to the bigger high powered machinery that are expected to enter this class, but he feels that he can take a few scalps with the agile Abarth. For the second year in a row his title sponsor will be Tom Kane Motors Recovery and Transportation.
The first race of the year is on the 27th of March in Kirkistown which is one of Barry-Johns favourite tracks. “I had my first win on that track so it’s an ideal place to start the season in the Dunlop Abarth Cup. We are always on the pace there and this year we should really shine” Barry-John commented. Barry-John also has McHenry Car Sales, Thrifty Car Rental and JH Autobody onboard for the 5th year in a row as sponsors. They were also joined over the winter by Speedy Tyres, Cable Technical Services and Artane Auto. “We worked hard over the winter to get a budget together and we have some very loyal sponsors. Tom Kane Recovery and Transportation agreed to be title sponsor again and without their help we probably would not be racing this year. We worked very hard to get all the other sponsors on board too and we hope we can give them a good return on their investment, together with BT Racing, all our loyal sponsors and myself, I believe we can become title contender this year”.

:worship: i came across the video on youtube completely randomly a few weeks ago, glad to see you on the forum!

Thats some awesome racing, way more exciting than time attack etc! Nice to see that they handle as well - the two-wheeler moment surely shows that they grip like glue! What sort of suspension mods do they have from standard?

are they just 1.8s with standard internals and intake/exhaust/management upgrades, or is there more to it than that?

they have full race spec lida suspention thats rebuilt every year and sealed. we run a full race spec ecu and nomber of things are done to them but to very very strict regulations.

finished second 2nd and 4th in round 1 and 2. round 3 in mondello may 9th.

round 3 and 4 this weakend in mondello park. car just back from the paintshop. hopefully shoud be a good weakend.

Barry-John

Keep up the great work Barry, spectated a few of your races at Mondello (both Punto & Uno), I'm from Dub13 myself so just supporting the home team (y)

good stuff canon.

a few changes but more or less the same paint job, a bit more green and bigger sign writing. ill post up pics when i get them from the weakend. very close racing all weakend. the top 9 all within 0.5 of a second in qualifing on saterday. oil temp was off the scales and reading 150 degrees so the car kept tightning up on me in qualifing and both races. finished 6th in both. a bit disapointed but only 0.25 of a second off fastest lap (which i did on my 2nd and 3rd lap) before oil; heated up again. great close racing thow and great fun. engine will be stripped down and rebuilt now before heading over to anglesa for the next round.

car had a major shunt in anglesea in wales and is getting a whole new front and sides and chassiy legs and qtr panels. what a disatres weakend. was fastest out there aswell. roll on kirkistown.

here is the front

u no when they say its not as bad as it looks, well the damage done was much much worse then it looks. the sump and oil pump smashed off the ground and the chassi legs were pushed right over.

itil be ready soon with brand new paint job, again
