General MOT Due

Hi All,

Punto Mk2 Sporting 03 due for MOT in middle of June and I'm looking to do some of the smaller things to get it through myself. I used the NOSA website and have viewed all of the previous MOT certificates. The car has only failed on small things so far such as wipers not clearing enough water, hand brake cable no efficient enough, headlights at wrong angle.

This year my wipers are shot so im replacing these myself nice and cheap but my back brakes are not great, the brake peddle changes the height it is required on continuous braking and can sometimes feel it bouncing back up. Also, the handbrake only seems to catch it I have my foot hard on the brake and then engage the handbrake. Any ideas whats wrong and how much this will potentially cost to fix? I have hear it might be sticky adjusters on the back wheels and a stretched cable but I have feared for a while that I will need new back brakes. I am quite worried about messing with brakes myself so how much would this cost to have done?

rear brake drum kit will cost about 60-70 on ebay - best get the whole kit (shoes,drums etc) and if ur worried, get the handbrake cable etc as well. labour wise should be about an hour (30 mins if they just replacing the shoes and drums) try keep an eye out for oem brake shoes tho, not all of the afermarket ones fit great. shop around and call garages for some quotes. every area have different rates.

There is a strong risk the rear brake cylinders have failed. It needs to be checked ASAP.
