Hi, You say the starter fits? My panda starter fouls on the punto crank housing. Have you heard of this?
Cheers

hmm yes i have found this. with my panda i had to use a punto starter. the 2 bolt holes opposite each other line up but the third one does not. you have to file down the locater thingy and just bolt it in with 2.

if your using a panda starter i guess the third bolt hole is not long enough. :/

should still fit though, you just only have to use 2 bolts and maybe file down the locater on the third bolt hole.

Looking at my 1368 block with an expert I have the Panda starter motor won't fit without grinding the little bulge out of the back of the block and a wedge on the motor. It's better to use the Punto motor with two bolts and do it with the engine and box off the car as it's a pain in the cheeks to do with the engine and box .

Your car looks superb. :)

Right, if you are gonna use the panda starter, you need to grind a little on the block and a little on the starter motor.
Trial fit, and do it gradually. Start with an angle grinder (gently) and finish off with a file. Be patient, don't rush it, take your time. It is not hard to do, but I personally feel a bit nervous when i need to get the grinder out in order to make things fit. So, best to measure twice and grind once...
On the 16v loom, you will need to modify one of the ring connectors, to allow it to fit on the bigger stud. Use a round file, trial fit and away you go.
I found the panda starter is a bit on the weak side to crank the 16v, especially when the engine is hot. It starts the car every time, but it certainly feels the extra load, so make sure you have a good battery. My engine didn't come with a Punto starter so i cannot comment on how it would fit on this setup.
Good luck (y)

Quick update on Manda 16v.
Just done a second engine swap a few days ago, the old one started smoking again and generally running badly, so thanks to panda-sport :)worship::worship:) I got my hands on a lovely low mileage mk2 1242 16v (code 188.A5)
The electrics were moved over from the old one, the flywheel was swapped over (the new engine was off an auto), and the alternator mount gave us a bit of grief, but got there at the end. The water pipe had to be swapped as well.
No modifications on the block were needed to fit my starter motor.
Also got a 4-2-1 manifold from John Ashley. That was a drama in itself, as the manifold is designed to fit in a Punto, NOT in a Panda, so it would not clear the radiator.
I know, I should have told John Ashley where the manifolds was gonna be fitted, but I didn't. I had to get it modified by a local exhaust specialist and now it is all good.
I should have got a Supersprint one to start with, as at the end it ended up costing me almost the same :bang:
The good thing about this manifold is that it fits both the mk1 and the mk2 16v as I believe Damon had some input into designing the mounting plate (y)
I tidied up the wiring , I have been meaning to do that since ages, just never did  Now all the bits and pieces sit nicely in a black plastic box just just next to the heater box.
Oh, also upgraded the engine mounts, packed them, so now the whole thing is is very very tight :D The exhaust has been modify further, and now there are no more leaks. To finish it off I should look into fitting a subtle aftermarket silencer, but that can wait I suppose.
So here it is

and Manda in full bloom in a sunny Autumn afternoon.

The next few things I want to do is to upgrade the wheels to 14"and see if I can get 185s in there with the right combination of spacers and offset.
Also want to tidy up that sound proofing as it is loose and ugly. I tried to remove it altogether, but the car becomes even more noisy (n) Looking at different materials to use atm..
Ah, and a lovely and fancy interior from VmanC would be nice (y):D

Quick update.
Manda went through MOT today with how many advisories? (drum roll...)
NONE! :D
To be fair there is a bit of an oil leak, I suspect the crankshaft seal as the spay is around there and the sump is still in good nick, but will take a closer look. Job for the weekend (y)

Something else is bugging me at the moment though. The roof lining is collapsing at the back. I blame the rear passengers trying to claw at something at roundabouts ;)
I know it doesn't seem to be a common problem with pandas, but has anyone had this before? will try and take some pics, at the moment is held in place with special tool no 2345 (gaffer tape). Not happy

Congrats on the MOT(y) The roof lining in all my Pandas sags in the back, never done anything about it though, is that what is happening to you or is the whole thing falling down?

Yes, the whole thing is falling down. Looks like the few lugs that hold it place at the back have decided to say, no more!

I haven't looked on the mk2 but the back roof lining bowed massively on the mk1. It turned out the whole backing board had somehow moved forward allowing the board lugs to come out of the holes in the metal at the rear. Some careful pushing and wiggling enabled me to slide the board back into its slots - it's come out a couple of times since, but not for a while.

If the mk2 is similar you might be able to slide it back. If not the same ignore me - it's too early to go and find a mk2 to look at..... ;)

Congrats on the mot (y)

Saggy roof linings are fairly common. I think it's due to damp softening the fibreboard allowing it to lose its tension. Although it has lugs it also relies on tension to keep its concave shape.

I've not tried it but if you glued a layer of something, maybe fibreglass matting, over the back of the affected area while it's held in shape this laminating method may well hold the shape once it's set.
