Technical Making a Sport filter fit on a Tipo 1.4

hey Andy,

"there`s another thing i was thinking about try removing the filter from the air box and put it back together in place then try to attach the sport filter to the cold air hose which , maybe it will work"

If it work it is not a bad idea. It's almost the same as making a orginale fit,but a little bit easyer ,maybe the sound is less?
I shall try it and let you know if it works and hopefully get a great sound.:)

"from what i got off the web there`s a K&N panel filter which is a straight swap for the standard one inside the airbox but i don`t know how is sounds coz we don`t have that type in local markets here"

Yes i know that to, there is here in the Netherlands a shop that's sales that product ,but I think the sound is not better.(Some guy told me that)

Thanks,

Greetz

The noise created is air being sucked in. If you open your original filter housing with cutting and drilling, it will make a similar noise. On your housing, the filter sits in the front nose part of the housing, so it will be very easy to convert.

But Andy, what do you think of the idea from Galilio_Mad ?
It's a much easy'er to make that fit ,but shall it get the same noise as your idea?

So what you are saying is that to make a orginale housing fit with a sport filter you get a same effect as a normal sport filter (without your orginale filter)

I shall try it saturday if it will work:)

Thankz Andy! :D

If you modify your original filter properly, then yes, it will make a "sucking" sound like a sports filter. You can then replace old filter with sport panel filter
Another idea is to use a "pancake filter". This is a round filter with a top and bottom with open sides which the filter sits in between like a sandwich.. You could also feed in the breather pipe too. Like this one;-

Andy.:)

what do you think that is the best option?

So a "Pancake filter" will fit to.
If i look at the picture i don't can see a "breather pipe" connection as my orginale filter on the backside of the filter.

I am asking to much Andy:D ?

You put the breather hose underneath. If needed, make a hole to fit it in. Simple really Think of it as two dinner plates with the filter in between on the edge, giving room on the inner side to have your hole!! .:)

Andy.

Or, you can fit a catchment for the breather, or be anti enviromental and leave open.

Andy.

I have try Galilio_Mad idea.

See picture down.

But the noise is not better ,maybe it's comes because he not fit very well.
Tomorrow I gonna buy a "ring" to make it better fit.
If that not will work a buy a other orginale filter on the cardump and will make it fit with a sport filter and than try it again.

What shall be the best way to make fit the sport filter on the orginale??

Like this? I hope it will work.:)

On your panel filter housing where the Fiat badge is, cut the front off and cut the sides. drill holes in the bottom, job done. I dont know why you are messing with other ideas??

Andy,

Why I thought on other ideas is that the way of galilio idea was for me much easyer , but I have buy a other orginale filter to try to fit the sport filter.
Should I use the two hols of the orginale filter to? or must I closed those?
Only I have must make some place for the sport filter with a pipe ,or else my enginecap will not be closed:D ( Not enough space )

thanks for youre patient Andy.:)

Use the holes to feed cold air.

Andy.:)

But if I remove the old filter thats in the orginale filter siths.
The air that goes in the two holl will not be clean.
The sport filter cleans than only his air.

Evening all,

Having followed this thread with much interest - I have found at a local scrappy the air box assembly for a carb model as suggested by Galilio Mad -

It does indeed fit with a weeny bit of modification so I plan to slap it onto my 1.4ie in the morning. I have a flexi pipe cold air feed ready to put on also.

Is there anything else I should think about doing before driving away on it?
For instance will the change to the engines breathing make the ECU have to relearn its optimum fuelling settings etc? I'm sure I've heard about having to reset the engine management system (not sure how) if you change things like this...

Any input greatly welcomed as am novice to modding. Will keep you posted on whether it feels or sounds any better once done.

cheers,

Palicus

Hi Galilio_Mad.

Do you have test it already? And..?

I thought the Andy means to make a holl in the orginale filter to make a sportfilter fit on it. But now I understand it.
Great idea to. But what I now have it's better, do you think?

sorry for the very late reply, i forgot all about this topic :)

as for cutting and drilling the standard air box, yes it worked, the sound was good and the air suction was ok, but i thought that the standard panel filter was somehow small, it couldn`t provide all the air the engine needed

so i did this
sportairfilteryg1.jpg

as i said before, i got the carburettor cab from a Tempra engine, it fits perfectly
now the sound is amazing and the air flow is more than great
