General Lost fuel cap key...

I've decided to sell the Panda 1000cc, but I've lost the fuel cap key!

I've had it running (it ran out of fuel in the tank) by using a jerry can and pipe, but I would prefer to be able to sell it with the buyer having the option to put fuel in the more usual place!

Are the locks easy to force?

Does the filler pipe unclip at the back, so I can at least put some fuel in?

I don't know but it's quite a simple mechanism & key. Would have thought a local locksmith would sort you a key easily enough, or be able to force it without breaking those platinum plated filler bits! Presumably you've tried every key you can find in the lock?

The barrel is only made of alloy so quite easy to drill out. Take the filler hose off at the tank first, not from behind the cap ( too easy to break something ), then if any bits fall in they can be retrieved rather than drop in the tank.

Hows that? Anything which falls will get caught up in the anti syphon mesh, when mean pipe needs to be remove anyways

Can't you try ramming a flat headed screw driver into it first and turning it?

Not sure they all have mesh, will check tomorrow.

I tried a screwdriver once, ended up drilling it.

4x4's dont have a mesh. with a lot of fancy pipe bending action you can get a siphon pipe all the way into the tank. the anti siphon is the crinkly tube effect on the filler pipe.

if the filler cap is the same as that of a cinquecento then any of the drilled out lock bits will not go into the tank so long as you only drill the lock barrel out..
i still think what i suggested in my PM is a better idea. also if you find the key again one day you can still reuse it as it wont damage it.

My early Sisley defo did iirc, I saw it when I took the pipe off to fix the hole. I'll see if I can find some pics. EDIT: Think they're on my dead hard drive

I'll try my hand at picking first, and see if I get anywhere. Otherwise it will be brute force then maybe a drill!

Getting a locksmith out is not worth it... it will cost almost as much as I'm selling the car for!

my key snapped in the lock when it was icy.

Manged to get the snapped bit out and just use a flat head screw driver to undo it.

Mesh is half way down iirc inside the pipe, hole it out straight, have a look up it from tank end with a torch, or while pushing flap in to allow light through. Would be good know know if it's just a 4x4 thing (or if I were imagining it, my student life was a blur at times )

My Sisley does not have any mesh or a flap. I was able to syphon out the fuel left in there when I took the tank out with no problems.
