General Fuel leak

I can only assume these, whether by design or accident, expand when they come into contact with petrol. At £30 a go plus three weeks’ delay from Italy, I can’t afford to keep ordering them until one decides it wants to fit. Plus you can’t get a new sender/seal combo anywhere, all out of stock. Perhaps I could mock something up using O rings?

i must admit, i would have gone down the measuring calipers route and just took the measurements to a bearing place as they often do seals. hmm i kinda wish i had experance in this so i could offer more help.
i would take a measure and search for "flat o ring seal ID xx" where xx is the "inner diameter" size in mm. it looks like it does not matter if some of the washer sticks out?

even i am impressed as to how quick that seal has degraded.

post up the measurements in mm (if you have some measuring veneers) and ill try and find something that may work.

If that seal was way old stock, sticking oil on it seems to have made it expand…I prefer KY or other water based lube to fit seals (except brake). I would, as previously said, measure up the meeting faces and match up an off the shelf alternative

I left the seal over night wrapped in kitchen towel near a radiator, and it has shrunk back down to its original size. It’s now snugly around the fuel sender, but I still have the problem of being unable to turn it all the way clockwise. Oil didn’t do the trick, unfortunately. It’s just too tight!
