Panda (Classic) Like buses..

I hope they like it, some friends will take the ****, teach them how to deal with them by explaining how its a classic and whilst their cars are losing money the panda is gaining

Some used to rip me for it, yet I was the only one who owned by car out right, and strange enough few years down the line although my daily driver is just over 4 years old and they've newer, again I own it ought right and none of them do :chin:

Always kept within my budget, something I've always been pleased to use as a come back and something that normally shuts them up :)

The young guy (he said, sounding extremely old and gizzard-like...) I bought it from, got it because, not only was it cheap to insure, but it was "cool and funky" (he was actually looking for a 126...!); and the girls at Aston Martin used to beg him to bring it into work so that they could go out in it...! (y)

Either they have a better developed sense of automotive design history; or Classic Pandas are as much fun to the rest of the population as they are to us 'in the know'.... :D

The homewardette is already a convert, anyway; and has always been keen to tread her own path, rather than blend into the crowd. The only complaint will be that it's not Pinky coloured....

I think you have bought very wisely......my choice would be a 750L out of most panda models...these will be the first to disappear and will be one of the most desirable models in the future if in original trim.

It is for me the model I wish to own and would have had the one mep has... had not the VIP not turned up the week before.

You will not lose and only gain on whatever price you paid...I for one would have it off you in a heartbeat...only if you get that door repaired though..:D

I have always run non standard, quirky and interesting stuff. It always makes me smile if someone chooses to degrade my vehicle.
My response is to clamly say "Yeah I used to own (try to state the motor they have) but all the owners turned out to be such A***ho*es.
It's like planting a little time bomb. Initially they just can't believe what I said; And then you can watch them blow their top when they get about 20 yards away. Guffaw.

There will be one coming up for auction next year, immaculate and fully restored with a very interesting recent history apparently. ;)

She's already seen Pinky, and fallen in love...! (Haven't we all?!)

Many thanks! I feel both honoured and flattered.... :worship:

According to How Many Left?, there are 77 taxed, 74 SORN (and 3 Fantasias, and 2 SORN). Doesn't seem a lot, does it... -- and yet, to me, it was the Panda TA equivalent of its day....

The first thing I aim to do is sort the door (and the tiny spot on the roof); and then have a darned good look underneath. I'm sure there's a market, somewhere, for refurbished Panda doors, though... -- Alixcompo...! ;)

I will train the homewardette to look after it (and do all the necessary routine checks, etc.). I am pretty sure she will cherish it, anyway: so -- although its primary purpose is to be driven -- we will all remember that, out of the three (or maybe four...?!) cars we own, it is the one most likely to grow in value, rather than depreciate.... (y)

Thanks to everyone for their help and support. I know I've said this before: but this is the brightest (in both senses) area of the Forum, by a long way.... (And to think I joined because we had a Mk4 Panda on order...!) :slayer:

The 750L was the cheap entry level and treated as such...used, abused and not looked after because of its throw away price. Sisley 4x4's were always cherished.

You and mep have looked after examples..the rest out there could be rot boxes..I know from looking for one of these models for three years that it's very very hard to find 750L's with the hammock seats etc like the one you have...

Although true I think some of the special editions like the VIP, Italia 90, Parade, Fantasia and the ever so lovely Bianca are currently rarer and will remain that way. 77 750L's is higher than most individual Panda's with there only being 5 Bianca's, 28 Parade's (which is on par with the 28 Mania's left too), 3 750 Fantasia's and 5 Italia 90's.
There are even only 59 common as muck Fizz's :yuck:

Haha...your right, but look at how some of these models have dropped numbers wise in certain years. Plus the 750 was produced throughout most of the mk2 production. For me a true 750L has hammock seats and rubber flooring along with basic paint...later ones where not the same...hence i think alot of the 77 left will be later models...;)

Just a quick question. Initially, the car will just be insured in my name; with my name on the V5. When the homewardette passes her test, I will obviously then put her down (at goodness only knows what cost... -- but she will be paying...!) as the main driver, and me (and possibly her mum) as named drivers (to avoid fronting...).

Has anyone any recommendations as to who I should approach for insurance...? I shall obviously call the current insurers of the Punto (Lloyds TSB) and the Panda (LV: who may be able to do a multicar discount -- but this may not make sense in the long run, if the homewardette needs to build her own NCB...); but Confused.com failed to come up with any quotes for me alone, and just suggested Adrian Flux (who I am not a major fan of...). I suspect this is because of the age of the car; and therefore presume that you've all gone through something similar.... (Otherwise, I shall be trawling through the classified section of Practical Classics...!)

PS: Just found this thread; and this one; and even this one... -- all very helpful...! :worship:

Had no problem getting quote on Charmania? She's getting on for 21 soon. I'm only 18 too. I went through moneysupermarket and got plenty of quotes. I did have trouble getting a classic policy at my age but after some phone calls I got a decent quote.

Thanks for this...! Looks like you may end up being my go-to expert on such matters...! :worship:

Yes, and almost invariably the more basic models end up being rarest. Might not look like it yet, but the 750's and 1000CL's will end up rarer than the Super & 4x4. Yeah I know, but look back at any 70's model. The Panda's are still being thrown away and people won't choose a 750 to restore (usually!).

Panda's are cool with that age group anyway, so it's good to be different while not being ridiculed! (y) I always got respect with my 127 although even when I was 18 it was a slightly oddball choice - the fact it always worked & could run rings round all the obvious choices dynamically probably helped - someone did have an old R16 which was great - big old sofa on wheels with umbrella stick gear lever - sorry getting :Offtopic:

All of those are limited editions though, the 750L wasn't, compare origional sales numbers with current numbers, that where the tears will start.

Multi Vehicle policies still keep individual vehicle policies and their NCD separate (y)

Don't forget a lot of companies do Multi Vehicle / Multi Car Policies now. :)
