Hello!
In my Ducato Maxi L5H3 2020 I can't get the automatic light control to work.
It's headlights and DRL on all the time. Turned the switch to auto, used a torch to shine on the sensor. Nothing.

But when raining, the wipers adapt to the amount of rain so I wanna believe that the sensor is fine and hopefully the light sensor too.

Any ideas what more I can check? How to check the switch? I'm still new to this car.

Thanks for your help!

When you say that on the auto setting the headlights are on all the time are they on dipped or full beam?

I have the 2022 Ducato Maxi and, as far as I know, the rain and headlights use different sensors. The rain sensor is quite small and measures the refractive index of the windscreen glass which changes due to the water droplets on the glass. Whereas I believe the headlights use the camera sensor.

The auto setting should turn on the dipped headlights as it gets dark, there is a sensitivity setting in the head unit option list. There is also a setting to enable automatic headlight dipping for oncoming vehicles.

All of the above is for the 2022 model but may apply to the 2020 model.

Hello,

In MES 5.1, on the 2,3 liter x290 model in the body / CAN monitor menu I can see only the rain sensor. I have no idea what data is shown when connected to a vehicle equipped with a rain sensor. In the top right yellow window it shows 'From BCM'. I haven't seen the sensor appear in the BCM module though, both on the parameters and actuators tabs :( It is neither present in the Dashboard menu. No light sensor sign in MES.

I have no idea if there are two separate sensors in the Ducato, or there is only one, but some electronic circuit uses it for the two separate functions. Looking at what @linknet wrote above, it seems that there are 2 separate sensors. Is the camera working properly and the lens is clean?

I'd say it is possible that it requires some activation in MES or it can be linked with the region / country for which the van was ment. Is usage of automatic lights switching on/off allowed in Sweden?

Have you checked the owners' manual? I think such information should be found there.

the head unit option list.

The menu appears on the van dashboard?

Sweden requires headlights to be on all of the time so maybe it's set up so that they can't be turned off. In which case the auto setting would only be used to enable/disable automatic headlight dipping if the 2020 Ducato has that option.

Got the same idea that's why I've asked if usage of the auto feature is legal in Sweden :)

Honestly, it's a good idea that it could be that simple! I'll check that out with AlfaOBD! But in Sweden it's legal to go with DRL instead of dipped headlights these days too. So therefore I didn't think about it myself :D
