May be wrong, but shouldn't,t fog lights only work on dipped beam, and go off when main beam is turned on.
Could that be the answer
Dave

not to sure, but they don't work on dipped beam or side lights, only when i use full beam? Also are they meant to be fog lights or additional driving lights? the switch on the dash isn't a typical front fog light symbol?! As I also don't have a manual i cant look to see how they are supposed to work?

Right, so they work when i have the switch turned on, on the dash board and pull the light stalk forward?! but they don't work with the switch on the dash alone? any ideas anyone?

I will look at the handbook tomorrow night when i get home from work . It covers all models

If they are wired to come on only with main beam that suggests they are driving lights rather than fog lights, that would be the required setup for them. if in doubt park it facing a wall or something and look at the beam pattern, driving lights will be pointing ahead and tightly focussed, fogs are spread wide and low.

edit:
Ah yes, handbook says (quote)

Additional Headlamp Switch (if fitted)
Press this button with the main headlamp beams on and ignition key at MAR

so yes, they only operate with main beam.

Hmmmm then something isn't right, as with the switch on and the main headlamps on they don't come on? They only come on if i 'flash' the lights i.e. pull the stalk towards me :( relay maybe?

When you say 'main headlamps' do you mean dip, main or both? They will only come on with main beam, not dip (twist switch on stalk for dip, then click stalk downward to bring up main - blue light illuminates 3rd from top on dash, only then will the aux lamps kick in.)

Ah right so they aren't meant to be day running lamps, simply spot lights. Perfect, thanks so much for the help. so That's why its not a typical front fog light symbol. Mystery solved. :)

Hi,
Just thought I'd say hi!

also Hi trev!

I've owned 3/4 Y10s
first car was a Lancia Y10 Fire LX Still ran like new when I let her go on 122k
second a nero metallic Y10 Turbo D302UBH, which ended up in Trevors back garden.. it wasn't me! A mondeo driver cut me up dinking the drivers side followed by the chap I sold it to suffering from a little 'accumulated fade' with a car full of passengers bonked the drivers side again in a car park!
That one also had a new engine, purchased from Trev.. due to the old one ceasing.. for no locatable problem... only advise on that is to watch all the cooling the day it ceased was a very warm day, no escape from the heat, no breeze.

Picked up another Y10 Turbo Rosso Metallic D304KYB and ran that for a few years, turbo sadly went bang on that one and I sold it when I moved to Dorset, last trace was according to DVLA due tax in 2006.

Only Mod I did was to get those standard bike wheels off it and pop some Uno Turbo Alloys on.. giving it the ability to go round roundabouts/bends virtually flat. Rear bushes kept wearing quite quickly.

As for how they drive, Well great! I think the book 0-60 is 9.5 seconds
What you might not appreciate from driving other old cars though is the aerodynamics of the Y10, it's extremely agile against wind.. more so if it's a following one!
I used to drive mine on the rev counter and gently open her up to build speed. On the very rare occasion I popped my foot down, she absolutley stormed it away! you have to have a very quick hand to cover the gears for that 40mph will appear very quickly!

As you have found out the Fogs aren't fogs they are a 'rally' driving light, and only operate under Full beam Great for cross country runs at night!

They pull just lovely on a motorway, though add a few passengers and long distances get a bit wearing.. two people are ok.

I'd love to have another.. or even go as far as building a kit?!? That Blue one in your shed did have my eye for a while Trev! I saw him driving it once!

1.2 FIRE engine with a Turbo? not sure how a punto 1.4 Turbo would get under there.. I did read of Cinq' sportings with a turbo conversion but those are horrid cars with none of the passenger space the Y10 affords!

Now I am tinkering with a Volvo C70 T5 GS 2.3T Auto.. taking some getting used to the power! though the Y10 was an essential experience on Turbo driving!

Cheers

Ashley

Hi All, it's been a while so I thought I'd give you all and update! Interesting read nativ, you were obviously a fan! I've been asked if I want to show it at the November Classic car motor show in November, very tempting but I have a massive amount of work left to do before I get it up to those standards! The latest job was getting the wheels refurbished at Prestine wheels, they did an amazing job, they really do look like new! Photo's to follow :)

It would be great to see a Y10 at the classic show, last year I even looked at all the members cars photos on the stand of the Lancia's owners club and still couldn't see one :( I'm hoping one day to sneak a Y10 onto the panda club stand!
The only other car I wanted to see but couldn't find was a Renault Fuego!

Those wheels look fantastic BTW (y)

Cheers Panda, well, fingers crossed I get It all sorted and then who knows, if you go to the show, we might be there! Obviously I'll keep everyone posted on progress. Right off to de-rust the rear brake drums and get some high temp matt black paint on them. :)
