some of you may have seen a Lancia Phedra for sale on Ebay, well I may be interested and have had a chat with the man selling it but as it is on Italian plates I am not sure what paperwork I need to have it registered here or if there would be any import tax to pay !
anyone have any idea of what I should look out for ?

I have seen it for ages. It was originally being sold on gumtree for around £3300 I believe, perhaps 3 or 4 months ago.

Things may have moved on since I last did it but as less than 10 years old you will need the Certificate of Conformity - to prove it was built to European standards. Without this, you cannot go anywhere with it. If seller has this then fine. It will then need evidence to provide to DVLA or Vosa that it has a speedometer which shows miles per hour and evidence the lights have been changed permanently for driving on the left. Stickies on the lamps will not be accepted. Of course if you have a tame garage who will provide evidence they have "done" this work, you may get away with it. Then it will need MOT'd and off you go with getting it registered. If it was over 10 years old it would be a lot simpler. Also, not sure what tax band they will put it into so watch for that.

To be honest, it isn't worth the money. It isn't a Lancia, the miles are high, it needs £300 spent on paint fixing the scrape on the door and it will suffer the usual rubbish the rest of the eurovans do, except you may have more difficulty getting some bits that may be unique to the Lancia version.

Not worth it. It should be half the price to compensate for the sheer hassle of getting it registered.

If you are determined, Tim Speechley at Fiat HQ is the man to talk to about getting the Certificate of conformity.

Lastly, processes above are based on my understanding. I haven't looked into it for 3 years or so, so things may well have changed. If they have, they ain't likely to have been made easier! Best of luck

PS - no import tax or VAT to pay - assuming it was paid in the country it was originally sold...

Thanks for the info Lanciaman, I do believe he has a certificate of conformity however i do agree the price is a bit high even considering its rarity over here, also think it would be a struggle to get RHD headlights for it and also doubt speedo will show mph either :(
might give it a miss

It can be done - but it is a risk. You could always get a pair of Ulysse lamps and speedo and stick them in for the purposes and then swap back. It would then get through the usual MOT with stickies and the km/h speedo.

Need to be keen though! If it was already registered then a different kettle of fish. I once bought a 9 year old Kappa 3.0 and had to store it for 9 months until it was 10 to then get it registered!!

Best of luck if you take the plunge

It will never sell at that price - I bought a 2004 Prestigio for just £2000 with all the extras. Can you imagine trying to get a body panel for it!

aahh yes avatar is my little resto project :)
not a real lancia though but then it goes with my ulysse which is not a real Fiat !
did think about getting a Chrysler Delta to go with them :)
anyway looks like you have a Thesis how did you go about bringing that over here ? really fancy one of those, V6 of course.

FranticFran I think the only real difference between the Ulysse and Phedra is the the front bodywork and a lot of the interior, I fancied it as something a bit different but agree that he wants too much for it, he has declined at least 10 offers !
thing is I looked on some Italian car web sites and they are still fetching good money over there I reckon he would be better off taking it back :D

True like all the Eurovan2's bar some subtle differences like the front wings & bumpers. My main point being why buy it when you can get a Prestigio for half that figure?

p.s. I used to be mad on the old Lancia Beta's in my youth. Owned 3 HPE's and 2 Coupes back in the 80's. Always wanted a Volumex soft top but never did get my hands on one. A bit older now and own a 1981 Esprit so still influenced by Italian designed wedges!

Not having looked closely I thought the Phedra and Ulysse have the same wings and in fact the Ulysse lights would probably bolt straight onto it - albeit look a bit odd!

They never did the Volumex on the Spyder, although I think a couple of folk may have built their own. Only the HPE, coupe and Trevi.....

Is it a Hawk? They are exceptionally good I believe. What engine are you putting in it/have in it?

Thesis - I had it last year but bottled it. Bought it from the original owner who imported it from new from Belgium. It was the 20v turbo manual - which is not the combination I would have chosen but was actually possibly the best of them once I had driven it. More torques than any bar the multivalve jtd, and a sweet 6 speed box. But it is too complex in the electronics department and unless you have the technical support - which I don't as 40 miles north of Aberdeen - then you're stuffed. So sold it to a good friend who is also a Lancia nut. Plan is I buy one of his 8.32s in a few months time - perhaps!

Yes ! Lancia beta's :)
I had one for years and it never broke down ever ! and it taught me a lot about welding and body filling, loved it though.
Love the early Esprit too, you are lucky to have one.
Also just got my Ulysse MOT'd for another year so may aswell hold on to it for now, its done 160,000 and seems ok.

No not Hawk, its a very early Litton Corse and has the double wishbone suspension all round.
Engine is 2.8 VW VR6, not italian but then neither is car !
Unfortunatly Alfa V6 won't fit but VR6 is still pretty good and has more back up/tuning possibilities in UK than Alfa.
Good luck with 8.32 really fancy one of those too, I once went in a Hawk Stratos with one of those engines in :)

Yes I too remember having to do annual welding to the beta's - luckily though there was a Lancia dealer that closed down in our town and he had loads of spares including body panels going cheap, changed a whole back wing on a HPE once.

Also loved the Beta but nothing compared to the Esprit which is a real handling sportscar! Mine has a Audi 4.2l V8 transplanted into the back so is quite insane to drive (as the NA is 160BHP, turbo 210bhp - the V8 produces 320BHP).

Esprit + Audi V8
