I've noticed that the 500's group have a 'U' after them which means that the security is unacceptable. Does anybody know why this is? I would expect it to be pretty much identical to the Panda, which is 'E', which means it exceeds the security requirements. What is really strange is that it's not just a few categories lower. 'E' is the be type and 'U' is the worst.

Do people find the 500 expensive or difficult to insure?

thats interesting, my insurance went up from £200 to £344 this year without any claims or anything which i wasnt a happy bunny about but then everyones insurance has meant to of increased, its just sods law mine happened the year i was now 25!

No one want to steal a Panda.... thats why it scores well.

JOKE

Pretty much all insurance companies put the price of insurance up every year. We just switch every year.....

What are the differences between the Panda and 500? I'm sure the immobiliser, locks, and vehicle identification must be the same. Neither have alarms (as standard) so the only difference I can see is the glazing, but I can't see how that could make it go from very good to very bad.

The biggest factor may be the extra pair of doors on the Panda - perhaps (it's only a guess) it's easier to crowbar open a 500.

Just renewed my wifes insurance on the 500, gone up £30 fully comp this year to £260.

My 23 year old son got the best deal last Christmas £140 fully comp on his Seat Arosa courtesy of an error from one on the insurance comparison websites. I even rang the company to check it and three months later they realised the mistake but have honoured it.

Nice Christmas pressy for him. (y)

I should stop moaning about my £159 cost for fully comp.

Still a lot. Mines half that, but i've got 170 HP, 3 speeding points and 1 write off on record! I'm only 2 years older.

How did you manage that!? Have you declared your stripes to your insurer though? ;)

Out of interested I shopped around for quotes for a 500 Abarth and it came out at £200 more than I'm paying now.

What I'm insured at now really is the cheapest possibility I can find. :(

£990pa On my Cinquecento S (899cc)

Im 20, No Nc.

Insurance is rather stupid, and abit random.
A supercharged Jaguar XJ 4.0 is £200 cheaper to insure then a standered 3.2 XJ. Still both over £4,000pa tho.

Cheapest insurance iv found has been for a Classic Auto Panda. That was around £800pa.

Sorry abit off the 500 topic ;)

I'm not sure really. Shop around, comparison sites etc. Few tips, when you get your quotes from the comparison sites, look at which company is the cheapest, then close the comparison site and go direct to that company. This way, it avoids any "commission" they might add. I've also added my Mum and Dad to the policy, in the past this has knocked over £400 off the premium :)
