Re: i bought one of these cheap mods for an extra 15bhp off ebay - need help fitting it!

There is a reason the guy ain't being too helpful, he is laughing at getting £5 for something worth a few pence.

These things have been discussed on here before, they don't do anything useful and might get you maybe 1hp. Its a total scam!

Basically it tried to fool the ECU into thinking the air is colder and hence more dense than it actually is. This then makes the ECU feed in more fuel than it would otherwise.

On a 7ltr 200BHP lazy V8 you might get some difference, on a little 4 cyl engine it won't do a darn thing.

Sorry!

Tom, I am in no way doubting your knowledge about our beloved cars, but how do you know its a scam?

I didnt understand what piece of mod he is talking about and besides, as I understand, he hasnt even fitted this thing as yet!!

LOL!!! I love this, a mod for the Seat Leon Cupra (which is a turbo car) but it says its not for turbo cars... I so wish trading standards could do something about these people. Ebay should be shut down! So much of the stuff is obviously fraudulent or hot.

These things have done the rounds before. Its a scam cos its a 10pence part sold for £5 and it won'r give the massive power increase the advert promises.

Once you do the mod you can only run your car on super unleaded and thats why you get better performance.

I'll tell you how to make one if you want. :)

They have come over from the US where engines are MUCH bigger and are generally massively under powered for their size. A friend has a GM shagwagon with a 5.7ltr V8 putting out 200BHP. A which tinker with it and it was putting out about 220. This engine is capable of 400+ in stock form!!!

Its a different story for little european engines where you are getting more than 35BHP/ltr. Our engines are already quite well tuned and as Yogis only got 30BHP when he added cams and an ECU upgrade you can see that things are a little harder to tweak.

Re: Re: Re: i bought one of these cheap mods for an extra 15bhp off ebay - need help fitting it!

I love the way on these things they put a screen full of text for the description, but never actually say what it is !! LOL !!

Q: Will it damage my engine ?
A: Doubt it as it doesn't actually do anything :)

Q: Is it really good ?
A: Yes this £4.99 mod will give the same results as spending £400-800 on a modified and tuned ECU !

Provides an increase of 20 HP - Hyperactive Poodles ?

(Note: The author of this message in no way condones the act of giving poodles lots of fizzy drinks with large amounts of E number ingredients in order to make them Hyperactive - thereby increasing the performance of your vehicle. No Poodles were harmed in the typing of this message)

right,

i say we tackle it head on.i'm taking it upon myself to email any sellers i see with these pieces of ****,
and im telling ebay to get rid of the motherfuckers.OUT

Re: right,

There is not much ebay can do... their rules and regs more or less absolve them of all blame for the sellers claims and products.

Re: Re: Re: i bought one of these cheap mods for an extra 15bhp off ebay - need help fitting it!

Shut ebay down because some people are gullible enough to believe some ******** about ridiculous performance improvements? Cobblers!

Literaly millions of transactions have been made successfully, with both parties satisfied.

Many by users of this forum. At the moment, there are some Bravos for sale, and some 'nice fascias' too.

Don't shoot the messenger!

Re: Re: Re: Re: i bought one of these cheap mods for an extra 15bhp off ebay - need help fitting it!

Its the rules and regs of ebay that make it perfect for this sort of scam. There are many other ways to buy and sell stuff which have been going for many years.

There are reasons we have the trades descriptions act and the sales of goods act. :)

You'd never get away with selling that sort of stuff in the highstreet or even normal mailorder. These are not people selling the odd old thing they find in their house, they are people making a living selling on ebay.

I know people who have bought software over ebay and have recieved CDRs. Blatantly ripped off.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: i bought one of these cheap mods for an extra 15bhp off ebay - need help fitting

I use ebay regularly. In the last 3 months I have spent almost £300 without any problems.

Ebay have a rating system for buyers and sellers on a percent basis. So long as buyers leave negative feedback, dodgy dealers stand out like a sore thumb, just like a geezer on your local market with his gear in a suitcase!

Would you buy a mod out of a suitcase on your local market? You'd have to be stupid, gullible, or both.

I rest my case!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: i bought one of these cheap mods for an extra 15bhp off ebay - need help fit

Yeah but all these people have A++++++ or other such baloney ratings left by the buyers. Probably the vast majority of buyers don't bother with the feedback and the ones that do are usually the sorts of idiots who believe the bull in the advert. Anyway, what stops these people just changing user ID?

I think most of the people who bought that 15bhp mod thing have never fitted it. Look at the feedback for these people, the negative ones are for these 'mods' the rest are for other items.

Ebay as a tool for private buyers is not bad but it should not be used as a tool for businesses. You have to indicate if you are a trade advertiser in addtrader, autotrader etc..

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: i bought one of these cheap mods for an extra 15bhp off ebay - need help

tom, i agree
all the positive feedback is all -"wel done for the quick transaction and query response" like you say tom most havnt put it in yet but are pleased with the seling and buying process and speed! -all the complaints are about the mods
nick

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: i bought one of these cheap mods for an extra 15bhp off ebay - need

When I buy something through ebay, I never put in fedback until I am COMPLETELY satisfied!
Just because it arrived quickly does not prompt me to leave positive feedback. It has to be in good nick and do what it is supposed to do.
If a user changes ID they go to 0% (forget the AAA++++++ ratings) One good transaction earns 100% Follow that with a bad one takes them down to 50%. It's a good system if people use it properly, putting positive feedback when COMPLETELY satisfied. I never buy from anyone who has less than around 90%, and have never been let down.

Tom, reading between the lines, you seem to have a big downer on ebay. Why? Have you had a bad experience, but are too proud to admit it?

Anyway, bad buying experiences are not limited to auction sites. Ask some of the people who have had dealings with A**t on THIS site.
I had a problem getting some items from a seller on this site I had paid for up front (NOT Jonathan, I must state) It took 5 e-mails and a couple of posts to get the stuff!

There is very little wrong with ebay if used sensibly!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: i bought one of these cheap mods for an extra 15bhp off ebay - n

Hmm.. late nite bravo forum!

I've never bought anything from ebay. (I have however been stung by large mail order firms, Mr.Barclaycard sorted those out!) Friends have used ebay, some good, some bad experiences. A couple of friends use ebay to make some pocket money.. one of them picks up the free magazines you get at cinemas and sells them on ebay. Its amazing just how many morons are out there.

You just look at the comments 'great ebayer' 'a+++++' 'aaaaaaaaa' etc and you get a good idea of the average IQ of the buyers. If someone is stupid enough to write the feedback before they have tried what they bought then its their own funeral.

I'm a haggler, ebay goes against my principals as the price goes UP! :) A mate of mine sells audio equipment on ebay. Its amazing as people will bid OVER the price you would normally pay in the shops. Nothing special about this stuff, you can get it from most semi-decent DJ shops. I bought some headphones from him for the list price of £18, they go for over £30 sometimes on ebay.

Anyway, I said it was only a bad thing cos of all the 'businesses' on there abusing ebays rules and blatantly selling fradulent stuff. OK, they are using their nonce and manking some cash but in the end it could seriously hurt the legit ebay users.

Personally I buy and sell quite a bit of stuff through the small ads. I never send money, I always pick the items up and I usually insist that people come to collect or let me deliver stuff I'm selling. OK, its a little different from a £5 on ebay.. would you send £500 or £1000 to a seller on ebay?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: i bought one of these cheap mods for an extra 15bhp off ebay

several late nighters by the looks of it! if your still around lets meet up in the chat.

I use ebay pretty often and have never had a problem. if i dont like the description of the item, or the seller is unclear in correspondence about it i dont bid.
you also have to take into account previous buyers comments. i think they are all genuine and take them as truthful, any more than 3 or 4 bad comments and I don't bid.
