My 100HP is £333 F/C covering my partner and I, driving tuition, driving tests, off-road tuition, plus anyone over 25 is also insured F/C if they borrow the car. Having a Birmingham postcode isn't the greatest, either. Given that I cover 25k miles PA, that's pretty good value.

rd27 - The Lexus is a great car but an auto at 19?! :p

Having said that, I got to drive a C63 recently and I definitely wasn't complaining that it was an auto!

How times change...When I was 18, I had a 5.7L 300hp Chevrolet Camaro that could run a 1/4 mile in about 15 seconds....

I think it cost about £150 a year to insure as a classic....

:)

Mind you, a humble 1.8L ITR will do the 1/4 mile in 15 seconds too. What do the Americans say about there being no substitute for cubic capacity? :p

Oh it wasn't the quickest thing I've ever driven, but the feeling of sheer terror when you planted the right foot and held on for dear life was pretty awesome....

No finesse at all....Just brute force!.... (y)

Thats not too bad in comparison to what I am paying at the moment as my insurance for the Panda is £2900  for a 17 year old, how did you get yours down to £1000

I had my father as the main driver and I had two years ncb from a previous policy he wasn't using. Of course, with my dad being main driver he drove the car the most...

I love the Auto, it has paddles on the wheel for tiptronic too, but I just want a laid back drive. :p

Blimey rd, seems like only yesterday you were excited about getting the Panda!

Gimmie a flash from the Lexus if you see me (y)

The insurance is silly money, but I'd guess for the car and your age not to bad. If you can afford it and justify it then why not!

I know it's just my opinion, but it just seems like a complete waste of money to be paying nigh on £3K for your insurance. Is it worth it? Really?

I've never paid over £800 for insurance ever, but I guess prices for young drivers have shot through the roof in the last ten years which didn't affect me.

I think £1K is managagble but 3K for a group 5 car which is hardly a hot hatch just seems way too much. I guess at the end of the day insurance companies want to limit young drivers as to the cars they drive.

Yes I know it is totally ridiculous most of my friends also drive 1.2's and 1.4's, things like corsa's etc and know ones insurance is below around £1800 on their own policy and most are above £2000.

Now to put this into perspective my bike is £250 to insure and that can do 0-60 in under 4 seconds 130 odd tops, now thats confusing or what.

Haha, of course he did and I only do 2000 miles a year in my car.

It's not just the value or performance of the your vehicle - it's the damage that you can do with it. Pile into a Ferrari in your Panda and the damage will be a lot more than if you stack your bike.

Ok that is true because it will be my body that takes most of the damage on a bike. :(
