Just thought i'd keep you all updated, due to collect my new car tomorrow and p/x in the Panda. She was my first car and i've had her for about a year and a half.

This is the new car: a Lexus IS250 SE-L Auto

Thanks for all the comments people, I was sad to see the Panda go, but i'm loving the Lexus.

Partridge quotes are also an everyday experience for me now, as people at work call her "the Japanese Mercedes" or me "DAN".
"It's amazing owning a Lexus the number of LEXI you see around."

Good to hear that you are enjoying it, one thing that i am insterested in asked is how much your insurance is as the Panda was your first car you can't be that old. I just wanted to know because the 100HP is my first car and I want to see what the insurance is going to be like when I come to change in years to come. :)

Alot. When i'm 19 with 2 years ncb it's £3000. The Lexus is a group 12 and I used to pay £1000 on the group 5 Panda.

A big change there similar to what I had to do.

I have always run warm/hot hatches but at the moment also have a 525d Tourer for lugging the baby gear/bikes/euro trips. (or all 3 at times)

A few weeks ago I got upgraded on my hire car in Italy and had a 1.6jtd Mito instead of the usually Panda or Punto, it showed me that I really do miss the fun side of driving after straying into barge territory.

Thats not too bad in comparison to what I am paying at the moment as my insurance for the Panda is £2900  for a 17 year old, how did you get yours down to £1000

I know it's just my opinion, but it just seems like a complete waste of money to be paying nigh on £3K for your insurance. Is it worth it? Really?

I've never paid over £800 for insurance ever, but I guess prices for young drivers have shot through the roof in the last ten years which didn't affect me.

I think £1K is managagble but 3K for a group 5 car which is hardly a hot hatch just seems way too much. I guess at the end of the day insurance companies want to limit young drivers as to the cars they drive.

I am 28, I live in Chorlton and have two years NCB, never had an accident, no points etc and pay over £800 a year for insurance on a group 1 car. It was by far the cheapest quote too. Many wanted over £1k and some were upto £5k. I once had a quote of £13,000 for a 12 year old Fiesta.

It's mad isn't it? I'm guessing having a Manchester postcode really hammers you. I'm just under Stockport which is marginally better I think. That really is harsh. I remember going back to 2000 and insuring an Astra GTE 16v for the same money you are paying. Of course it got nicked in 6 weeks!

I guess it might also be that you have relatively little no claims (no idea how long you have been driving).

I baulked at £371 that's with business as well on my 100hp as it was £300 last year.

Just to put this into perspective.

32 year old self employed male. I pay £240 on my 100hp. This is for 12k, class 2 business use and I have one sp40. I have 9 years no claims and no accidents. I found putting my wife on as a named driver reduced the overall premium. I have an NP44 postcode which seems to be favourable too. I have never paid more than £750 on insurance for anything.

I passed my test in 2008 so I think that hurts me a lot. It is also insured for business use including carrying computers so again that will bump it up. I also put a claim in for a smashed window due to a break in last Christmas on my old Corsa. Although it dosn't count as a claim in terms of loosing my no claims it still effects it.

Come to think of it as it didn't count as a claim I wonder if I even needed to tell my new insurance company? That said it is best to be honest rather than have them refused to pay out in a crash or if it got stolen.
