Hi all.

I've had the Selecta long enough now to have done a fair few long distance 3-4 hours journeys in it now.

All is well apart from the fact that when driven at about 80 (70 by sat nav) when one stops (at the end of journey or services for a break) there is a slight burning rubber smell. It smells just like it does when you slam on the brakes and they lock up and leave skid marks. But upon investigation its not coming from any of the tyres.

Anyone had any similar problems with their Panda (Auto or Manual). The car never seems to have probelms when this smell is around and the smell goes after the car has been sitting for about 10 minutes or so and it only happens when crusing at these speeds.

Thanks, Jon.

Check for any oil leaking onto the exhaust manifold. The cam cover gasket is known to leak and cause this.

It could also be a seizing brake caliper causing the brakes to overheat. Is it definitely not coming from the wheels?

Last thing I would check is the drivebelts, both alternator and cambelt. If there's any friction or slippage with these they can cause a burning rubber smell. Get them checked as you don't want to be stranded by a snapped belt

Only other thing I can think of is an alternator on its way out (they can sometimes smell like they're burning) or a leaking exhaust? Or could it indicate problems with the automatic 'box?

Thanks for all the different bits, No oils from anywhere leaking, and exhaust is new so that should be ok, Calippers I might get checked! There is sometimes a very slight squeek when in traffic but they're never hot when I go to feel them.

Alternator belts is a possibility which I will check. Just hope its not the Auto box.
