When changing a drive shaft on the wife's 2012 Fiat 500 twinair with dualogic gearbox quite a lot of gearbox oil unexpectedly came out but captured most & put back in the gearbox so probably does require topping up, however a small quantity of gearbox oil was mistakenly put into the dualogic reservoir.
We now have an automatic gearbox failure red warning light on albeit the car drove okay.
My question: is it the low gearbox oil that has bought the light on or is it that the dualogic mechanism reservoir that is now overfilled with (50ml)ish that's bought the light on?
Any advise greatly appreciated.
cheers
Neil

The mechanical part of the gearbox is a normal gearbox, using normal gearbox oil. There will be no sensors on this, so even if empty will not throw a warning light. (It would just seize up if empty.)

The dualogic system uses different oil, and the mix is the likely reason it has set a warning light. The dualogic system is a separate hydraulic system, just as a robotic control. It will now need draining, flushing and refilling with the correct fluid.

Many thanks for your prompt response Portland Bill, would this be a task that can be carried out at home in a well equipped garage? And is there a method of carrying out what you advise please? I suspect it now to be overfilled & would it be worth draining some out to the correct level or is it too late in the day for that?
Thanks

Physically removing the dualogic system from the gearbox appears to be straightforward, so draining it then should be fairly easy. I've not worked on one, so can only go by the little I've seen, and the explanations in the diagrams, and posts on here.

Getting all the oil out of the various components could be a bit more tricky. There's a bleed procedure, using software. MultiECUscan (MES) or Alfaobd will do this.
