Dont bet on it doing anything. It sounds like you have an injector issue. Firstly try some fuel clean additive at max strength for a couple of tanks. Check the wiring to each injector are good too. Sounds like a job for MES to seeif anything obvious shows up.
I have suspicions it's a injector problem I have stuff a few cleaners through the tank and I haven't noticed much differents. What is mes?

MES is diagnostic software for Italian engines
MultiECUscan is it's full NAME 🙂

What year is your VAN?

The 1.9 has been around a long TIME.. 😉

Due to history..
Some motors are FIAT.. others are French PSA

That looks like the knocking sensor, I think. The sensor sits on the engine block, kind of the middle of it (sideways), underneath the intake manifold. The easiest acces to it is from under the car.

Hello sorry for the late reply I thought I replied back the van is a 2004. It used to run a lot worse on idle it used to be in real pain in the ass but that seemed to have stopped a half blanked the EGR valve but wasn't fully blanked off and it was building up with carbon so I cleaned it all out and blanked it off properly and it seems to run a lot better on idle but when you go to accelerate it sort of Judges then go

You could try unplugging the injectors in turn , one by one .... the one that doesn't make running worse is your culprit
Hello yes I have unplugged the injector one by one but annoyingly I have to unplug One clear the code then unplug cylinder to clear the code then do number three and clear the code and then do number four because if I did one after the other it cuts the engine out but to be honest yes it ran lumpy and worse which makes me think it's not the injector

That's perfect thank you typically I just put the cover back on this morning 🤣

Does it put smoke out of the exhaust when Cold?
No not really. It used to smoke a lot when driving it quite hard but the car has only done a thousand miles in one year and it was driven by an old man but that seems to be getting clearer now

Little update I haven't had a chance to look at it but it's now chucking white smoke out on hard acceleration witch tells me diesel problem. It's still humps and lumps on tick over and love reves but runs lovely in higher reve range

Sound like classic over fuelling..

At high revs the extra fuel is just turned INTO POWER

That rare connector is unknown for me, try to follow it, seems it comes from back of engine.
With EGR blocked (disconnected or better plate) check at idling with Multiecuscan next parameters:
rpm, intake air mg/i, total fuel mm3, barometric pressure, boost pressure, intake temp (MAF), rail pressure bar, main injection advance or timming (SOI).
Bad idling and white smoke is because bad inyectors, sensors or timming out sync.

Hello ceecff thank you for your response.i have tried to follow it and it seems to go in to the time belt cover and goes around to the back of the engine then goes into the loom and then it Y of to this plug I haven't really had the chance to have a good dig through it I put plenty of red x through it and I thought it was getting better but it seems to be getting worse so it looks like I'm going to be looking into this very soon
