Hi,
A friend of mine has a problem with rear brake calipers of his HGT.
It's very difficult find an used ones in scraps.
There is any other car that uses the same rear brake calipers?
Thanks a lot!

Yes, buy a reconditioned caliper from www.brakeparts.co.uk.

They'll send you an "as new" caliper (the internals are all new.. just the body is actually second hand but even that will look like new).. you fit it.. and then send them back the manky one back to recycle.

A scrappy will sell you one that's an unknown quantity, even if you can find one.

Ralf S.

Thanks!
But my friend is from Italy, and there isn't anything like brakeparts.co.uk.
There's no Alfa, Lancia or Fiat that use the same rear brake calipers?

Rear disc on HGT is same as front disc on 8V 1.2 Punto.

Friend could get OP to order the parts and post them on. I have often done that for my brother who used to live in Italy. But generally spares prices for Fiats, etc were much cheaper there than in UK.

Depending on your car and year, Brakes from a Fiat Stilo will interchange on newer cars and Brakes from a Fiat Coupé, Alfa Romeo 146 or Fiat Bravo HGT will fit older cars. What year? If you know the size of the disc well be able to answer it fully :)

But Fiat Stilo uses 251mm rear discs. It's plug&play?
No need to change hand brake cables, hubs, rear disc protections or other things? Anyone tried that?

Post#8 mentioned the Stilo discs being 251mm. The Shop 4 Parts page shows that front discs on the 8V Punto are the same as rear discs on the HGT. Actual size not important as the discs are so cheap. But the disc size is a big issue if you want to fit different calipers.

Easiest option is factory rebuilt caliper(s).

Easier but more expensive. :bang:

Can the guy not get parts in Italy? They are usually much cheper there than here. That's how Shop4Parts etc make their living.

Yes, it's easier he buy in Italy, but HGT's are very hard to find in scrapys. Because of that I ask wich other cars can use rear brake calipers that are compatible.
If Stilo rear brake calipers are easy to swap it's great because it's very easy and cheap find them in Italy.

Agree but you can get HGT rear calipers remanufactured service exchange in UK for £70 (€80). The type of service will also exist in Italy. Has he checked the costs for brand new calipers? They might not be silly money.

If he gets a Stilo caliper and it fits do let us know. Though if they are not the same but do fit he will need the pair.

But that price is without postage and he has to send the old ones.
The postage for sending the new ones to Italy and the old ones to UK are others £70. And they don't accept the old ones, because they are very bad, some parts of metal are missed.
And he can find some Stilo rear brake calipers for 30€!
They are different of course, but they are plug and play?

I am saying in UK a remanufactured caliper costs £70 plus delivery. I recently had one done locally for £100.
The same sort of service must also exist all over Italy surely it cant be hard to find out.

If (good?) used Stilo brakes are that cheap its worth the risk at least crawl under the car and do some measurements.

I understood what you said.
But the calipers can't be rebuilt, they are cracked. And the companies that sell remanufactured calipers need the old ones, and they don't accept because they are cracked!
Ok, wich measurements should I do?
