Advice needed on my 2013 5OOL took car to garage as strong smell in car. Got told it was an injector seal £120 would be an 1 hour, 2 hours past rang the garage to be told took longer than thought now £180!!. Waited an 1 hour rang back to be told need new injector, can get a reconditioned extra £90. So now at £270. Waited 3 hours and rang back to be told got a faulty part and keeping my car till Monday and looking to be more money. I would not have gone ahead if i knew it was going to cost so much. I am dreading the call on Monday. What can i do, i cannot afford any more money.

Have you used the garage before? From what you’ve said it stinks to me of a garage that have messed up in some way and trying to cover there tracks. It probably did just need an injector seal and they’ve possibly damaged the injector while trying to remove it or something of the like. Keep your fingers crossed for some good news tomorrow morning 🙂

Never used the garage before! i thought the same thing. Will keep you posted
If they have replaced the injector make sure they’ve coded it in as well, it will run with out coding but the engine will treat it as the old injector so won’t be running at optimum efficiency

Tell them you want all the old parts and ask them to explain how a seal turned into a faulty injector,

“I am quite alarmed at how a £120 job is now costing nearly 2 and a half times as much as what you quoted me.

Why has this gone from an injector seal which is really a fairly cheap part to needing a whole new injector? Did the injector get damaged during removal as that was not the original problem. I would like to see the old parts and the new parts before continuing any work.

I am concerned about these rapidly increasing costs, I do not have the money to be paying nearly £300 for what started out as just a replacement seal, so I want to know how this has escalated so rapidly”

If they have damaged it getting it out then they may start to panic if you start wanting the old parts. And maybe “adjust” the price down.

Is this a diesel or a petrol?
