On friday i bought my first car, a Fiat Uno 1.0L 1993, i''m just waiting for a cover note from my insurer so i can tax the car and then start to drive it!
Excellent, well done! Great first car I think

, especially the basic models with no fancy rubbish like power steering, abs, etc. You'll really appricate later on with other cars how good your car control will be
My car has 73800 miles on the clock, is this good or bad? overall the car looks in amazing condition.
All depends on its maintenace. Low milage isn't always a good idea, 'cos some drivers may only still service it every 12k miles even though that may be 2-3 years. Really it should be done every year at the latest.
For example, my Uno is older than yours, but had lower milage (53k), and it showed in the engine's condition (needed work). :bang:
However, it terms of 'generally speaking', it's nothing. The Fiat FIRE engines are meant to be really robust and can easily reach 200k miles. You'll probably find that other parts will fail before the engine actually does.
It is missing a back shelf so i guess i will need to goto the scrapyard and collect one, it also needs a one of those rubber bits between the wing mirror and the door replacing, is this hard to do?
Should be easy. Give it try.
Search ebay for parcel shelf, there's usually always one or two on there for cheap enough.
Could do with some new tyres, how much you guys think these will cost me?
I paid £24 each brand new fitted etc.
You live in Bristol? Call up Bracknell Tyres & Batteries for a price - they're very cheap. It's just a drive down the M4
Cambelt was replaced a 31000 and then again at 39000 (i dont know why), guess i should get this changed, again what kind of price am i looking at?
Don't bother unless something's squeeking. Apparently the "999cc 'FIRE' engine is 'non-interferance' so valves don't hit pistons if the timing belt snaps". So basically, if the cambelt does snap you'll be stranded somewhere at worst (so get break down cover!) so the only cost will be a new belt anyway.
the destributor cap was replaced 23/12/02 so its fairly new
No, no, change that. The part will cost you about £5 and you really can do it yourself

Just remember to transfer the HT leads over one by one so you get the correct order.
another question would be how much do you think i should have paid for the car? i coughed up £375 i felt it was a good deal
It sounds like there are no problems with it (will pass MOT first time, for example), so yes a very good price I think.
i've heard that the Uno has great acceleration, is this true? what can i look to take on at the traffic lights, i'd love to leave all the chavs for dead,
power-to-weight ratio, yeah.
Not sure about the 1litre injection engines, but I have the 1.1 carb FIRE engine and make loads of things look silly. The key is to at least keep up with other similar sized, but newer/modern cars. It will really annoy them as they've probably spent grands on buying the thing in the first place, whereas you've only spent a few hundred. 'Done up' examples are even better 'cos they've actually made their cars slower with the increased weight of bodykits and audio stuff.
If you really want some fun, remove the rear seats and get a suspension kit
Also, about the rev counter. It's great to have one, and more fun when you want the fun, but you don't really NEED it. You can figure out how to drive from your speed and the gear that you're in. Only a few hundred miles driving and you'll know the car in that way.
Enjoy it!, oh and welcome to the forum
