Head Unit : ISO connector (rewiring?)

Hi,

It was a bank holiday yesterday here in Ireland, and Lidl were selling a Silvercrest MP3+USB head unit. There were 2 differences with this head unit and the old bravo one:

*) The Aerial connector was different. No biggie, I was able to buy an adaptor.

*) The feeding and earth block ISO connector needs to be changed. I need to swap the Black/Orange Ignition Feed with the Red Permanent Feed (otherwise the radio will only get power when I turn the ignition on and constantly loose its memory).

On this second point, how do I go about doing it? I asked a guy in my local car accessories shop, and he looked at me in horror and told me to bring the unit back and get a refund. Surely there must be an easy way to rewire the connector, or a cheapy adaptor that will do the job?

Well Johnny,

you could just cut the two wires and cross them over, or a more elegant solution is to use a pin or something to release the latches of the contacts in the plug and then swap the contacts over again.

a lot of new headunits have connectors in the red and yelloe wires so you can just unplug them and swap them as its very common

I did this the other day, i got two very skinny allan keys and pushed them down the front on the connector, once in i pushed them apart, its pushed in the hooks on each side and the wire just come out.

I tried using paper clips to push the clips in to release the wire, but no joy. I then tried using a stanley knife to slightly split the plastic to make the gap bigger so that it would be easier to prise the clips out, but again would not work.

I might try the allen key approach, the electrical screwdrivers I have just aren't small enough.

ffs stop fannying about cut the wires and then crimp it just make sure ur get teh right wires

Got them out by using doubled up paper clips the way you Suggested Kevo. Thanks.

Didn't want to just cut&crimp the wires as I will be probably put in the original stereo when I'm selling off the car.
