Technical Haynes Manual

As you'll all be aware, Haynes do not produce a manual for our cars yet, although we may be able to get this to happen! This is an email I had from Haynes recently:

Dear Mr Page

Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding a Service and Repair Manual for your vehicle. Unfortunately, we do not produce a Manual for this particular model and have no plans to do so within the next 12 to 18 months.

However, all customer requests are recorded and used in the decision making process of future Manual publications/updates.

You could try contacting your local dealer to see if he can be of assistance.

Therefore, it may well be worthwhile if anyone interested in making this happen can e-mail Haynes with a similar request, and, just maybe, they will note the general requirement for it.

Bottom line here is .."Dont waste you breath even trying " its not going to happen ..the cost involved doing a complete strip down and rebuild of the panda means they wont do it ..you can how ever get a sex manual from haynes if you need it..another point against it is the fact that you can get the workshop manual on disc..

I suspect the problem for Haynes these days is that there are so many variants of a particular car that they cannot cover them all and the market is too small to cover only one or two variants. After all, the Panda comes with 4 different engines and 3 transmission types for a start.
We have a 2003 Honda Jazz and I was amazed that Haynes recently produced a workshop manual for this car. Then I realised that the Jazz had been produced for a world-wide market, including the USA. In addition there were only 2 engines available in the UK and either a manual or auto box. Everything else is identical on every car so a relatively concise manual covers the whole UK range and could be altered without much effort for sales abroad.

I just thought it was worth pushing the point with them. After all, they do manuals for the likes of Spitfires, and who the hell has one of those in their gardens!! And yet there must be thousands of Panda's around now!

I don't rely heavily on Haynes manuals anyway, anyone who has used one will find that they are only 'reasonably accurate' in many areas and do fail to mention many things, but they're a good basis for quick reference.

The workshop manual on cd that was mentioned...does that cover the 1.3 yet? I have one here I downloaded and it doesn't.

I have been looking on the net today for a cd manual for my 1.2 I did find loads on eBay but as I don't have an eBay account I couldn't purchase one.. anyone know if fiat dealers sell them or a link to anyone where I can get one and make payment for it with my debit card..

I still have a copy here and it covered 1.0, 1.1, 1.4 and 1.6 (8v and 16v) petrol engines, plus a 1.5 diesel. And both manual and auto gearboxes. And 3-door and 5-door models too. I reckon that's more variants than the Panda.

More likely is numbers of cars sold, and how long the model's been around. Generally, new models will be dealer serviced in their early lives and only once in circulation as large numbers of pre-owned models will there be enough demand to justify a publisher putting all that effort in. But the Panda is now what -- five years in production? Must be close to the point where Haynes can justify it. (For the record, the Saxo was introduced in 1996, and Haynes published a manual for it in 1999) Maybe we should all contact them...?

Manuals are made depending upon the number of a certain model sold, because the more cars sold, the more manuals they'll sell. So they're more likly to do one for the GP before the Panda unfortunatly

Wait though, there might be one eventually. There was for Mums Yaris, after a 5 year wait

In the case of the saxo/peugeot 106 [same car] I think its fair to say that Its one the boy racers and chavs mess about with fitting all their tuning bits that do nothing other than get them noticed by the plod so I think this is why Hayes did the book ..knowing full well they would sell lots of them..we as panda owner of course don't have to do it cos fiat did it with the 100hp ..it comes already chav'd for us..

If I wanted to fix something on my Panda I'd go to the library and take out a Punto Haynes Manual. Near enough same running gear has been put in every small FIAT for the last twenty years.
It's not a volume issue though. I have a Haynes manual for a Rover 75 and only a couple of hundred thousand of them were sold. The Panda is well past the million mark now.

You could reply to the contact Vicky in Haynes that most of the text they have for small FIATs could be re-used since it is mechanically similiar to the Punto and Seicento and also forward the press release about the Panda passing the million mark showing that releasing a manual doesn't take much effort and that there is a ready market for the manual.

I was looking on ebay and there appear to be a number of alternatives - most were fairly cheap but one was a little pricier - but came in a box and with a properly printed label. Is the content any different? I recall (but memory now awful) that it purported to be a better than the rest. Any recommendations which one to buy?

I purchased the standard Panda cd download ( 1.1 and 1.2) out of curiousity, then bought the Punto 1.3 MJ version as well, as obviously the Panda cd didn't even mention my MJ engine. Well, I did hope there'd been a mistake on the website description.
These were from www.electronicmanuals.co.uk which now seems to have disappeared.

Panda version is fairly basic stuff, the Punto version seems to be genuine Fiat, with quite a lot of detailed info.

If anyone is genuinely in need of a copy, PM me, and as long as there's not more than a handful -I don't fancy a free for all - I'll see what I can do.

I know it's a bit of a longshot but I can't get the bomb bay doors of my Lancaster to open. Does the Haynes manual give any tips on how to release the doors? It's just that I need it working for a raid on the ball bearing factories in Schweinfurt this Saturday evening.
