Problem, handbrake is virtually non existent.

Last week my handbrake went while stopping at traffic lights. There was no sound (a loud ping to say the cable snapped did not happen) just the handbrake was very loose when I pulled it up.
I haven't had a chance to properly have a look but I did jack up the car and the nearside wheel is quite hard to spin and the offside wheel turns freely. This would look like the offside cable has snapped but because there was no noise I have to ask the question. Is it the cable snapped or can it be something else?

yes i would also be looking at the anchor plate

Since you suspect the Driver has snapped, this will mean the working (nearside) Will sit lower to the back of the car - while the drivers will start to point to the drivers seat

It may not be a cable thats snapped - but it is more likely
It could the shoe's arm has snapped
the clip on the end has let go

Really what needs to be done
A full rear drum inspection tbh
A removal - cleaning - refitting - readjusting while looking at the cable
If the cable has died, i'd seriously think about doing both sides, as 1 had failed, the other will be shortly be behind

Ziggy
