Fiat fiorino van 2008 1.3 m jet diesel
79000 miles home

This was found in my oil Sump, whilst removing prior to fitting new timing chain.
(Still in progress.)
I would love to know what it is
It is black plastic type material

Does it match a bit broken off one of the tensioner guides or pads?
When working at a Lada Dealership many years ago I found the remains of several tensioner/guides, as when chain slack they would eat through the 10mm mounting bolts and the remains of the guide would drop into the sump, if not fixed they would carry on eating into the cylinder head.
I used to regularly replace then in services along with correctly adjusting the timing chain whilst adjusting the valve clearances. If lucky I had a piece of hooked wire that I used to pull the remains up from where it was trapped prior to it's journey to the sump.
On 1.3 multijet in one of my daughters Fiat Grande Punto whilst doing timing chain I found it had already eaten through the chain cover causing an oil leak with previous owner.

I am replacing timing chain after inadvertantly throwing timing out ,think I turned it backwards at one point during main oil seal replacement. Won't know what's what until I get into timing chain cover. Hoping it's something to do with tensioner. Do not really want to remove cambox cover. So it will be interesting to see where it has come from.
