Hi All, Further to my previous post on this matter. I am told that the problem is the syncro ring on 2nd. Apparently there are two setups in the gearbox. Firstly where all the gears are seperate with individual rings. Secondly, where 1st and 2nd gears come as a unit. I've been told that you cannot tell which set up you,ve got without dropping the gearbox and looking. The big problem is that the individual rings are available but the 1st and 2nd units are not which means paying for the gearbox to be removed and then finding you cannot get the parts to repair it. Does anyone have any knowledge of this or of where a 1st and 2nd unit may be bought. All the Best, Ian

Ian,

For whatever reason you have chosen to open a new thread, for what would appear to be an ongoing problem. Also you do not provide either the vehicle, or gearbox details. This means that any forum member reading your post #1 above, would first need to trawl through your previous posts in an attempt to discover the missing details. They may just choose not to bother.

May I suggest that you either repost on the previous thread that you mention, or include the missing details, however vehicle details are best included in the thread title.
Alternatively, perhaps a kindly moderator like Davren could move your post and delete this one.

Hi All, Sorry. Did not wish to cause offence or confusion. My van is a 1996 Ducato 1.9td x230. As for the gearbox, it is a 5 speed manual. Apparently further relevant identification is impossible without dropping it and looking inside. This is my problem. To pay or not to pay for the exploratory work as the van is still driveable with care. I was only asking if anyone has experience of this situation or who may have knowledge of what and where parts are available. Many Thanks. Ian.

Hi,
Only you know if you can put up with it or want to get it fixed.
If you do get it fixed please let us know.
Best wishes
Jack

I gave you a trial solution some time back on the other thread. Try auto tranny fluid. You just might be surprised.

Ian.
