Happy Monday Gents.

Last week, I replaced the rear brake shoes and cylinders on my 2009 Panda, and when I took the car for a test run to bed in the shoes I noticed something
strange.
When I reversed out of my parking spot my rear window wiper operated, I though the wiper may have been left on since the last time I drove the car. But when I returned to my parking spot, I reversed into the spot as my brakes needed to be bled more, the rear wiper came on again, still confused I reversed into my spot and put the car into neutral and the wiper stopped. I engaged reverse again and the wiper came one again.

What the feck has happened, has anyone hade this happen to them?

I take it the rear wipers work normally via the switch
I take it the front wipers work normally by the switch, the rear will automatically come on in reverse if the fronts are on

Assuming all above is okay

Then I suspect you have a problem with your near side rear light cluster ground pin

And it's finding a new path through the wiper motor ground

Ignition on, stand behind the car and have someone leave their foot on the brake, then test the indicators, fog lamp and lights

Does the brake light dim badly on one side

Hi Koalar.

Thanks for the reply. Yes the wipers work normally via the switch.
I am just on my way out to bleed the brakes and I will report back with my finding to your suggestions regarding testing the lights and checking the brake lights.

I was just thrown aback when the wiper functioned when I engaged reverse gear. It frazzled my brain lol, as I could not understand what I had done, not to mention the grief and moan from the missus.

Cheers once more.

Not that unusual

The other common symptoms is the indicators flash at a different speed when the brakes are used

I normally test them as I posted above

Here's mine with a fix

Had 3 pandas and repaired 5 light clusters I think

I have crimps and crimpers so normal just put a new crimp on, but the can normally be cleaned and bent back into shape

All sorted thanks.

I found a chaffed wire going to the right rear lights and the contacts were corroded. I put on some heat shrink and renewed all the
connectors on both light clusters.

This forum has been a great help and when I get a bit of spare pocket money I will be subscribing.
👌👌👍👍🫡🫡
Worth the money as far as I am concerned.
