Hi
I have a 2002 motorhome fiat Ducato 2.8jtd . When turning ignition key to its first position prior to starting engine the red glow plug light in bottom left of instrument panel normally comes on for a few seconds then goes out to show the plug heater has worked . I have just noticed that the red light now stays on all the time see attached photo . The engine starts and runs ok . Has anyone experienced this and any suggestions how to fix . Thanks

I think that’s the injector light, not the glow plugs.

That’s what I thought but does it also double up as glow plug light before engaging starter as it goes on for a short period before engaging starter then out to show glow plug has heated . It now comes on and stays on . Engine starts and runs ok . Just had mot so emmisions ok

Not usually, it’s a warning light so will come on to show it’s working regardless.

The 2.8jtd does not use glowplugs, instead it uses a flame starter, which will not normally operate at ambient temperatures above 0c.
The warning light in the photo attached to post #1 is the general warning light, and as @Googlebot says it will illuminate for a few seconds while the ECU carries out checks. It is normally good practice not to start the engine until the various lights extinguish.
The fact that the light stays on is a warning that a fault code has been stored. I would not expect the vehicle to pass an MOT with the light illuminated, so perhaps this is a new fault.
While it may possible to read and reset some fault codes with a basic code reader, and an adapter lead, the most commonly suggested method is to use solution Multiecuscan which runs on a Windows computer. An adapter lead will be required for the OP's x230 model Ducato, which does not have a standard 16 pin OBDII port.

For an explanation of the flame starter follow Link to Motor Roam, and scroll down.

It seems strange that it is a faulty injector as engine runs and idles ok . What is best way to isolate which injector is faulty ?

Fiat chose to use a symbol resembling an injector, to draw atention to a fault code. It is probably intermittent, as a yellow light would suggest. The fault code is most likely to relate to something other than an injector.
