Having other issues in progress with my car so far i need your opinion on this. I have drive so far about 400 kilometers with my little fiat and i have calculate in total but also in every fuel fill that my average consumption is 10lt/100km's same or even more as my 1.6 102hp 1250kg Beetle!!!
I am driving normal in my town without having my leg on the floor.
Any thoughts? I have overhaul my carburetor and checked valves and timing which i believe is set ok.

What is the actual consumption Thomas?
I do no city driving; most of my drives are at least 25 kilometres. But when things are going well I get at least 18 km per litre. But I have seen people say they get much less in town.
I think that because the engine has to spin so fast to give its best power in comparison with modern engines, the overall fuel economy compares badly with modern cars.

I forgot to mention my consumption:D, well it is 10lt/100 km's, i think manual says must be around 5.5lt or something.

Yes....5.5 litres per 100 km is about 18 to the litre so I am doing OK....maybe better than that sometimes:cool:
I do know that when my timing was all wrong over that couple of weeks when I was messing with it, the car was using a lot more petrol than usual.(n)
I think the standard tyres help. If toe-in is wrong it could slow things down. I can actually feel the gearbox oil drag when it is really cold here, but when the whole thing has got really hot the car seems to "fly". Of course I'm sure you have discounted the brakes, but even your axle and bearing issues might have added a little to consumption.
The engine has to work so hard I think that marginal things like that matter more than in a big car. One of my theories is that unlike modern cars, where you are encouraged to change gear early to keep revs low, the 500 is more efficient when spinning like an electric-motor...mine sounds like that when it's going well.
But you are using nearly twice as much per km so that does make me scratch my head a bit.

Peter my 5 year old son likes to push pull the car back and fwd on our garage so there is no drag from brakes, bearings etc. I think i will check the timing again:bang:

You might try pulling a spark plug and seeing what it looks like. If a little dark with carbon then maybe you are running rich. Also make sure the "choke" is fully released at the carburetor.

Hi .Just a small question on this theme ,Can anyone tell me what fuel
consumption I should expect from a 500 L with a 650cc engine fitted.
I havn't been to a petrol station to fill up yet just used what I had in cans and I have only
done a few miles anyway yet.

126 has 6.5lt max so I guess fitted on the lighter 500 it will be even less.

Thomas
