ok i've broken the key -well the black plastic end molding,for sparkys fuel cap......now ,will any old cap fit ..ie the one for sale on e-bay from a clx ?(sparkys a 1000s)....

but also, for a quick fix untill it comes in the post.
all auto shops and some garages sell multifit rubber bung types.
about £3

i did have a slight panic as the end broke off the key at an M5 service staion half way between cornwall and peterborough and i was already touching red :eek: thankfully my trusty toolkit had pliers to save the day ...

On the packet back of these most state, will not fit Metro, Panda and some other car. Typical. lol.

Have a look when you next see one, out of interest, as I've only ever seen one which didn't say this.

Are these rubber bungs legal?. At mot they always check for a good seal on the filler cap. If car tips over in a crash i can imagine a pool of petrol on the road and possibly an inferno with a rubber bung.

Your correct selecta man a car WOULD fail its MOT with one fitted but its better than nowt in an emergency (y)


Check the local motor factors Posh they do replacement filler caps for about a fiver if you shop about..

Can you meet my sister please and prove that women can use tools i seem to end up doing anything that involves tools the most complex device she seems able to work is a Bottle opener :bang:
 
Your sister can use a bottle openener!? In these parts that makes her a semi skilled mechanic! Most of the women I bring home struggle to remember their own name, let alone operate machinery. Mind you they can text with one hand while holding a bottle in the other and pulling the cork out with their teeth.

Thats romance in my house......:p
