General Frozen Handbrake Cable - Help Please

I've got the same problem with my handbrake, I should have shielded it off in the better weather, there's no way I'm going to do it with the weather right now (my garage is full of motorbikes). I don't think there's any need to replace it, I've stopped using it when I park up overnight and just leave it in gear instead, it's always OK to use during normal driving, I'll have to remember to shield it off when the better weather comes.

Do you have to replace the entire handbrake or just the front part?? thanks

Heh.
I litterally set off this morning and the rear nearside is frozen solid. Glad to see this thread was already up!
Looks like I'll be doing some stripping and greasing today then. :D

I left mine out of gear and with the handbrake off - wheels turned to the kerb so it couldn't go anywhere. The last four days have been either frozen in gear (watch out this is how I think I weakend the gearstick bracket) or with a frozen handbrake.

Strangely the new method works a treat - lol!

I've been leaving mine in gear. Didn't really think through that it is also a cable! It's a flat road, so wheels to the kerb for me from now on!

Aren't the gearchange cables just as likely to freeze in neutral as with it in gear though? Or am I missing something?

The Frog - I like your avatar by the way. It's better than most of the other Koolart-type Multipla pics I've seen. Do you mind if I ask where you got it?

I think it's the case that the handbrake cables are more exposed and thus suffer water ingestion.

this is my 2nd multi and the handbrake cables freeze on this one as well. Park it in gear with the handbrake off "simples".

Glad i have drums on mine - this was a absolute necessity for me after my last car (03 plate Mondeo TDCi estate) which i replaced both rear calipers 3 times in 4 years of ownership due to seizing "off" usually just after they were a year old and causing the handbrake to be completely useless. Had 1 pair replaced under warranty but had to cough for the others myself.

My Multi's quirks are insignificant when compared to the money i threw at that thing due to poor design.
