The early 500 front bearing nuts were"castlated" and used a split-pin to lock in place after adjustment. The 126 nuts are"peened" nuts in that after the bearings have been adjusted, the outer rim of the nut is 'peened' into the slot on the stub-axle. I have made myself a tool for this job out of an old chisel. The sharp edge of the chisel must be rounded off so that it doesn't split the "peening rim" of the nut. It is alwaysbetter to SLIGHTLY overtighten the nut, because I have found that the nut, somehow, ALWAYS seems to unwind itself a fraction when 'peening' it!
