Freeview PVR with online TV on demand streaming

Well after a day of traipsing around the shops we've settled for something different than planned. Was going to be a freeview recorder with wireless iplayer connection etc. expecting around £170. Then turns out most units are only wifi ready and need a dongle at another £50.

Then worked out cheaper to get a blueray player with it all built in at about £220. But then it lacked a lot of the other PVR features we want. So in the end we backtracked, got a blueray payer with wifi iplayer etc, but without the recorder. £65 (£30 after using my £35 voucher). I think it's a Panasonic unit iirc.

Just means well use it as a separate box to our current PVR. Only downside, another remote to loose.

Never had much luck with those sorts of remotes, and mum has enough issues with TV remotes etc as it is, she'd tear her hear out operating everything from 1 remote :p

I know where you're coming from...! Mrs homeward & the homewardette were both pretty resistant at first... -- but I've got them well trained, now...! ;)

Lol. I've given up training - I just live with the fact she'll never be able to text, and I'll get a 20min voicemail once a week where her phone has called when from within her hand bag :p

Good call we have a toshiba bluray player which has on demand functions but never in all honesty ever use them still very good though! (Only wifi ready too)

until recently we had virgin TiVo which was everything and now sky plus which isn't as good but...... We use our iPads as a remote for both the sky and Apple TV meaning the only thing we need a normal remote for is turning the volume up and down, I'm sure for a few quid and an app the iPad could do that too.

The problem is I'm addicted to discovery channels so freeview isn't enough now but having a good PVR will change the way you watch TV

The work quite well
You set them up with macros
So to watch TV on our set up
It turns on the TV,Sky box,AV amp and changes the HDMI switch(big plus! only one button to switch everything off!)
however I still keep the Sky remote as I find it more practical to use that over a context menu set up on the Harmony
