Technical Foreign object? Breather pipe

I was working on my sons Seicento replacing the rocket cover gasket. [emoji30]When I was dismantling the oil breather pipe I noticed this stuck in the end of the pipe that locates over the top of the rocker cover (see pic). Should this be there? [emoji848]Is it some kind of filter to stop the crude/carbon? Thanks[emoji106]

yup thats meant to be there, as above its called the flame trap. Can get new ones from ricambio if you need a replacement.

Its there to help bring oil out of the air coming out the breather, similar to the gauze in a oil catch can.
