Technical Fitting an ISO std Radio into a stilo

Hi, I have recently purchased a Blaupunkt DAB54, and after trying to install it I have found that the std ISO connectors on the stilo although they fit have the pins in the wrong locations for the DAB54. After visiting several car audio shops none of them can tell me the correct wiring harness, the problem is driving me mad as at the moment, through buying and adjusting a generic harness I only have the permanent 12volt and ground working, this means I have to manualy switch onanf off the unit rather than it working on the ignition. Also the ilumination and speed audio increase doesnt work eventhough the unit supports it and the OEM unit worked.

Please help!!!

Halfords were pretty hopless, I think from reading other topics, that Fiats don't have an ignition switch wire, so how do they turn off with the ignition then like my OEM HU?

If I remember there is a thick RED wire (Perm 12v), a thick BLACK wire (ground), a thin RED/WHITE wire (NFI) and a thin RED/BLACK (NFI)

I hoped that one would have been the illumination and one the speed, but alas neither seem to do anything!....

My Sony has to be turned off manually every time I leave the car.

Hi leeowen,

The ilumination and speed audio increase in the OEM unit worked because it uses the CAN network to comunicate with the body computer of your Stilo.
The Blaukpunt unit is not ready to work like this, and even if it could use the CAN network, the body computer would't "talk" to it because it has your OEM Radio code recorded in the RAM so it will only acept the OEM Visteon unit.
The only way is to put a new ignition switch wire, but be careful, because the Stilo wiring is always being monitored and if you put extra power on the wiring you will have fault messages on the display...

Yes,the standard radio can go off with the ignition, but it´s a setting on the "My Car Menu", so it´s a signal that the body computer sends to the radio trough the CAN network, not an electrical contact...

You could always use a connection to the cigar lighter for turning the unit on and off as this is controlled by the ignition, and the wire to turn the radio on/off doesn't draw much current at all, so this should not affect the on board computer etc.

This is all very help full, but what about the dash illumination? what do the two spare wires do then?

I fitted a sony cd player and the unit operated fine with just the standard wiring. Have you checked all the fuses

I fitted a JVC stereo and multi changer and had to cut off the connection and re-wire in a new chocolate block.

I seem to have the same prob that everyone does, i need to switch my jvc off manually everytime.

In ISO connector the part with black and red, if i remember correct. But what IF; the other 2 wires; i think the otherone of them has to be the ignition wire? I haven't tried it yet but a 12V light bulb would be a good tester to find the wire out?

you will not get a aftermarket headunit to switch on/off with the igition on the stilo as the head unit uses the can network, i tried for about two weeks with mine. i have to switch it off manul everytime etc.

Ive got my headunit wired up through the 12v light in the glove box, but i still have the same problem of turning it on and off.

One problem ive come across is when i really turn the volume up loud, when it gets to a certain point; i assume that it is trying to drawn to much power or something! the headunit like turns it self off and on, like its reseting its self or somthing!

Is the this because the power supply is weak?!

Were else can i get another power supply from for my headunit?!

My car audio nightmare ANYHELP URGENT!!!

Hi guys new to the forum and i have had my stilo 04 1.6 active sport for 2 weeks.

Ok so i wanted to get rid of that awful stereo and put in my sony xplode head unit, i took the stereo out and put in the head unit. I connected the stilo wires to the sony adapter and then into the back of the head unit..and........ no power!

Confused i didn't know what to do so i went to halfolds, they looked at the wires and said it should be fine and didn't understand why it wasn't working and said my head unit could be faulty!

So i brought a new head unit, one that doesn't need an adapter and plugs straight into the head unit. So i do this and turn the ignition on and the car states - "Loose connection" and all the dials (rev counter etc..)go up and down and stop working. So i took the head unit out and the dials went back to normal BUT now my indoor light doesn't work and one of the heater buttons doesn't work!!!

Now i have no stereo and i even tried plugging the original stilo stereo back in and that doesn't even turn on any more!!! what the hell is going on??? any one encounter this prob before?? should i take it to an auto electrician or to fiat ??

when i fitted my dvd player i didn't have power, all it was for me was the stilo does not have an ignition live, which means you have to connect the ignition live from the HU and the constant live both to the constant live from the car....well that solved my problem anyway hope it helps although i didnt have all the other wierd things going off like you just no power to my HU

audio help - new headunit

just got an aftermarket headunit fitted in my stilo but when the ignition goes off the stereo stays on :S anyone know why it does this, was there a wire out of place or is it a common problem? - its a kenwood headunit

also whats the cable with the blue plug at the end for behind the headunit, is it what connects to the dash screen? if so anyway i can connect it have this feature? thanks

because there is no ignition feed in the stilo. so the stereo doesnt know when the keys being switched on or off. and that blue wire is likely to be a remote feed for pre outs, it has no communication to the dash screen which was controlled by the multicoloured plug that is no longer connected and only works with the original one sorry to say
