Can anyone tell about the general reliability of the newer 1.0, 1.3, 1.5 firefly engines. For some reason there is shockingly little information about it on the internet compared to other engines. From what little i did read about it, was generally positive.

Having just seen this short video I would say another over complicated design that without specialist expensive servicing and repairs will be short lived and unreliable, unlike earlier Fire engines.:(

Of course only time will tell but it does look very complicated. The multiair valve gear has proved to be only moderately reliable in previous versions and the turbo looks like a variable vane design - probably with all their inherent problems as they age (compared to a simple wastegated type.) I much prefer a simple dry belt drive for camshafts. Yes they require renewal from time to time but the renewal intervals are steadily getting longer with improved materials and design - My Skoda now has a "lifetime" belt with a projected life of around 120,000 miles I believe! However, if I keep it long enough, I will be changing it long before then.
