I'd like to suggest the following.
We all contribute to exploring the Byte Data List (BDL), and posting the results.

This will probably appeal to those that are familiar with MES and playing with the BDL.

I have explored this one day when I was supposed to be doing something else.

  1. Firstly, YOU MUST take a copy of your BDL and save as a text file.
  2. You pick a couple (or just one) of 'items' in the 'Adjustments' tab of MES, for your vehicle.
  3. Change the setting, and take another copy of your BDL, and 'save as' <the name of setting you changed>, and <what you changed it to>.
  4. Post both lists here with the following.
  5. Year.
  6. Make.
  7. Model.

  8. B&M - Working/Removed.
  9. Custom Head Unit - Y/N
Me (or someone else) can collate all the findings into a table. Any questionable findings can be reposted for verification/rechecking.

The most important item is Number 1.

Select all and copy to a text file. When you are finished playing, you can paste it back in. I believe the maximum number of Bytes is 250 for the later models, starting at 85 for the earlier models.

Change the settings using MES windows and dropdown menus. When you hit OK, it will save to your BDL.

Example of possible settings, save a BDL text file for each change, remembering to name the file in the format described in 3. above.

Another example

If people can do this we can quickly identify which Bytes are for what.
Many hands make light work and all that.

It's a nice idea. I suggested something similar last year but got little to no reply.
Problem is that a lot (most) of the bytes can't be changed with the settings.
For example if you have an Abarth or not. or a convertible, or which layout the LCD cluster has.

I'll have a look when I get home, and compare with my existing spreadsheet.
I'll also pick a title a go through the various settings options.
One thing I have noticed is that with each byte we have 256 possible values, but very few actual settings available on the car!
Maybe future proofing??

Byte #130 didn't seem to work for me, but I this many of these settings will depend on which hardware and software versions you have in your vehicle.

This is the table I was exploring today.

As discussed previously I took a copy of the bytelist and saved as 'original'

I took a copy of the byte list every time I 'Executed' a change in the table above, and processing into columns, pasted into the attached spreadsheet.
I did the first 6 headings.

  • These bytes only apply to my vehicle, my hardware, and my software versions in the ECUs.
  • Not all changed values will remain saved, some seem to revert back to their preset values.
  • Some values are programatically linked to other values so that changing one, automatically changes another.

After studying the spreadsheet, perhaps you could share your thoughts.

Spreadsheet created in Open Office so the layout may be slightly different in Excel, but Open Office is no strings free at
