Hi, I have read loads of people having the same or similar problems with their dual logic gearbox but non seem to be resolved, so I am trying again.
Basically it started when an oil light lit on the dash and the the message "transmission error" apears on the screen. I started noticing a juddering when the car was first pulling and going from 1st to 2nd gear. And quite bad juddering, like clutch judder, when going in reverse.
This gradually got worse and worse over a period of weeks. I took it to several mechanics and changed the gearbox oil, the selespeed oil, but still got the same problem. The car drove fine as long as I didnt stop. At traffic lights it would judder like mad or worse, jump into neutral and not go into gear. The only way I could rectify this was to turn the engine off, sometimes several times, and put it into gear until it went into first.
As you can imagine it was a real pain in the arse!! After trying several garages and non of them having the foggiest idea, I booked it in to a proper Fiat garage.
They stuck it on their test unit and these were the results:
P1744 - Hydraulic circuit pressure sensor
Electrical fault, curcuit voltage out of range.
P1818 - Gearbox control
Mechanical failures, actuator stuck open.
P1773 - Hydraulic curcuit pressure
Mechanical failures, low fluid level.
They then quoted me £1700 to sort it out... Yes I screamed WTF? as well!!
They said they would replace the whole mechanical unit as they do not repair them, and... I might as well get a new clutch while Im at it... Really? Are you throwing that in for nothing??
Anyway, I couldnt afford that and thought I will have to try and get it repaired...
THIS IS THE REALLY WEIRD BIT
The next day I topped up the selespeed fluid up and read somewhere that if I open and closed the drivers door 10 times it resets something.... I thought it cannot do any harm to try, so I did. Would you believe it, the car started to drive perfectly again... Seriously!!!
The car drove perfectly for 3 months, without the slightest of judder or anything. So that puts all the mechanics theory that I had "clutch judder" and needed a new clutch right out of the window.
It drove like a brand new vehicle and I was really happy AGAIN.
Now the bad news... It started again, exactly the same as last time, slight at first and now getting pretty bad.
Now I am at pulling my hair out stage again... I tried the 10 door opening thing, I think that was absolute nonsense now. I have topped up the fluid, thats ok.
I am not a mechanic so dont know about these things but, I cant help thinking there is just air trapped in the hydraulics and and its not quite pushing parts in properly because there is an airlock. That might be absolute nonsense but, does the hydraulics need to be bleed like on a radiator system? If so, does anyone know how.
I know this is an intermittent fault. When I took it to Fiat they must of touched something, or reset something as it started working again normally 2 days after going there. Does anyone know the thing they might of reset as I would rather just do that when the fault apears than pay £1700?
Any help would be so greatly appreciated, or if anyone knows someone that has knowledge of these units in the Manchester area I would be very thankful.
Thank you
Les
