Hi all,

Thank you for your continued help on this forum. I have a question regarding the removal of the coolant expansion bottle. Does anyone know how this can be done? I am trying to get access to some surface corrosion underneath and ideally would like to removal the tank in order to get better access.

Also while we're here what is the capacity for the cooling system? I'm guessing its a 50:50 mix with Paraflu?

Many thanks,

Sasha

Hi, when I removed my reservoir, using a turkey baster I sucked out as much of the coolant that I could. I disconnected the return pipe as you have then carefully disconnected the inlet larger one and plugged it with a cork to stop spillage. The reservoir can be unbolted (10mm nuts I think). Carefully lift up the reservoir off the fixed bolts then twist and manoeuver the reserbvoir out of the engine bay. It is fiddly for sure. 6.5 litres from initial fill I think.
good luck

With the return hose removed as you have done then you can remove the two? mounting bolts/nuts and then lift and twist the expansion tank and rest it on top of the engine/front nose metalwork.

This is what I do when doing a cam belt change. There is no need to drain, just plug the return pipe (put a piece of hose on an fold over and back on itself and tie wrap).

Thanks all for your replies I managed to get it out as you say a bit fiddly!
Working on any modern vehicle (let us say post 1990) is always going to be a fiddly process, scuffed knuckles, dropped tools/sockets into more inaccessible areas, followed by the inevitable ****

The way I thought about it was that I was changing the timing belt. Along with this was the water pump, therefore, I needed to drain all the coolant out, so, it didn’t matter that I removed the pipe as there wasn’t any coolant in there.

Once the pipe was removed, with a bit of wiggling, the tank came out easily
