If nothing else, if the car you drive is in your avatar, at least you've got the right colour
Mine varies a lot - if I do many short journeys, the trip computer is definitely optimistic; somewhere between 5% and 10%. On a single very long run, it's more accurate.
The only way to be sure of your long term mpg is to measure everything that goes in the tank - registering for a fuelly account (it's free) is an easy way of doing this.
Not everyone knows this, but the car has two resettable trip displays (A & B); the second has to be turned on through the menu system before you can use it. I reset the first trip display each time I fill up; on most tankfulls it generally reads about 5% better than the fuelly figure. The second trip display gets used to monitor individual journeys.

I'll definately sign up for the fuelly thing.
I had no idea you could.
I've had 71mpg on the trip computer of my 1.2. That was in the dead of winter, would be better in weather like we're having now. I've bought a car on ebay so we're driving to Windermere sometime this weekend, if I can I'll put my steelies on and go for maximum economy![]()
So with 1300 miles up on my TA S I thought I would take it on a bit of an mpg test run. It's been doing mostly urban commute runs to work since I bought it in Jan so I though I'd stretch it's legs and see what it does.
On saturday over a 60 mile round trip with eco off and on good open roads with little traffic, driving with speeds up to 120kph but driving it smoothly I achieved 53 mpg for the trip. I took it out again yesterday on exactly the same journey but took it a bit easier keeping speed around 100kph and achieved 61 mpg with eco still off. Today went out again, same journey, but with eco on and made an effort to keep speed around 80-100kph and generally took it easy and achieved 67mpg! I've no doubt that over a longer journey, taking it easier still, and with more miles up on the car I could easily get 70mpg real world no problem. My normal daily commute in mixed conditions achieves apx 44mpg over a tank. All figures are as per trip btw. Overall very happy with that and the car has really loosened up over the past few hundred miles and is much smoother and flexible then when new. Incidentally I think Ireland must be the only country that is right hand drive but the cars speedos are in KPH! We changed over to KM about 3 or 4 years ago and may people inc myself are still in miles mode so although my speedo is KPH I have set all the trips to Miles!![]()

Kph? What's that all about lol! The day the UK, (well what's left of it once the Scottish have gone indpendent) switches from mph to kph, it will leave a lot of folk rather confused! South Africa too (yes they do drive on the same side as us too) is in kph and it does my head in!
As for our TA, well 'er indoors averages 44-46 mpg per tank on her daily commute, though I'm sure if we took it on a run daaan sauuf, we'd get a bit more.
Well, the missus took the TA out for a much longer run than her usual 18 mile round trip commute to work today and the TA returned 57.9 mpg, which I was more than a little surprised at to be fair.
I'm now thinking we might take it for a trip to my folks daaan saauuf in the coming weeks to see if we can smack it over 60 mpg![]()
Do you enjoy going 50 mph in the Fiat on a motorway?
Do you enjoy going 50 mph in the Fiat on a motorway? I find 70-80 a more comfortable cruising speed for the car without using too much petrol I estimate about 45 mpg with the TA at those speeds.
There are plenty of times on the M25 when you can only dream of going 50mph on the motorway. And if you do manage it when the 40mph signs are on, you'll likely get a speeding ticket
.
But at 50 mph on the motorway, the 1.2 500 will easily get into the '70's on the trip mpg.
