Hi all,
as you know my 500L is a LHD from Italy.
Although I have kept it LHD I have decided to replace the dash unit with a UK spec model so that it reads MPH as the original one was in km/h only.
So whilst at it I thought I would dismantle and clean it and put some details together for anyone thinking of doing the same or carrying out any repairs to their unit, ie replace bulbs etc.

Hi Sean
As a rather random question - do you happen to know the size / thread of the speedo connection?
I need a gearbox for my Halda Speed Pilot rally timer and need to be split the cable drive.
The gearbox's come with many different connections and I have yet to find the size of the 500 version.

Brilliant thread. Where did you source the UK/MPH dash? I've been thinking of doing this conversion for a while.

I like that move towards "Brixitting" Franko.

Is the speedo drive pinion the same for kM and miles?

Blimey, where have you been? Trapped under bluebell?
I'm presuming the drive is the same. Everything else is the same lhd or rhd so it would have made perfect sense to use the same drive and calibrated gauge and then just change the dial.
It doesn't seem to go any faster in mph.
I found this one on e-bay. I have noticed some mph models don't have kph as well. My kph didn't have mph hence the change.

"I found this one on e-bay" hmmmmmm!!!

MPH dials will be available soon for L speedos..
so keep Seans doc so you can take them apart to change...

:D:D:D
I wish I had been busy with Bluebell. In fact, after a holiday in Corfu I have been building a dry-stone wall and currrently I'm trapped under my Citroen C3 Picasso. The fifth gear went AWOL and it also needed a front spring replacing. I could have removed and replaced the Fiat 500 gearbox twice in the time it took just to remove the C3's. I'm relaxing before facing fitting the replacement box tomorrow and for as many other days it takes.:bang:

If you could make the car go faster by changing the speedo, maybe I'd try that.

Out of interest, a video someone linked to on Facebook. The guy has summarised the car quite well but there is the odd inaccuracy such as the capacity of the "boot" and the fact that I don't think his actually has the original 500 engine.

Sorry for polluting your thread.:D
