I've got a 500 sport so the rear windows are tinted from factory. I was just wondering if anyone knew if it's the same kind of tint you would get if you took it to a 3rd party place, or if the glass itself is black?

Reason I ask is, I've noticed a mark on the rear window which is on the inside and it looks like the tint may be damaged. Tried to clean it off with no success, something may have rubbed against it to cause the damage but I can't think what :(

Hey it depends can u get that sorted under warranty?
Its probably the film or a hole in it?

I think Turtle is asking whether it's a film, a coating or if the glass is tinted all the way through.

Could try giving Autoglass a call - they should have this information.

If the worst comes to the worst and you can't live with it, remember the accidental damage to windscreen cover on most comprehensive insurance policies normally covers ALL the glass on the car.

I would have thought that if a factory ordered option it would have been dark glass rather than tinting film. However if it was a depot car and tinted by the dealer it will be film for sure.

Well the way he describes it i dont think there can be damage on darkened glass except a crack or a chip. If it looks pealed off or a hole showing a light color its definately film. Maybe a picture perhaps?

I am thinking that it is film but this of course can be speculation just like the investment bankers and they dont always get it right!

I have the factory tint and the glass is tinted it does not have a film on it.
Of you get them done after market they apply a film on them.

Spot on!

I just noticed it this morning in the rear view mirror. I'm going to try a bit of Autosmart Tardis just to make sure it's not just a hard to remove stain but I can't think what would have caused it in any case. It'd definitely on the inside of the glass, as I can run my nail over it and it feels rough. I was just worried that the factory tint was film, and I had somehow damaged it!

If the Tardis doesn't remove it i'll take a pic in the morning. Thanks for all the replies, great wee forum this :)

So it was a factory order that you had to wait for rather than a new car but from unregistered depot stock that the dealer added tints to?

I bought the car second hand, but I was under the impression ALL 'Sport' models have the rear windows tinted as standard (The same way the TwinAir Plus does).
