Well I was heading to work on a Saturday morning to do some overtime, and was on some country lanes, holding it in 4th gear at around 4krpm until I got over a crest of a hill which leads down a long straight bit of road. Got over the crest and went WOT upto 5.5krpm where by at first I thought it misfired, but then a split second later realised I'd lost power and another split seconded noticed my rear mirror was so full of smoke I couldnt see the road behind me or anything else. Looked back at my dash to see my rpm reading zero :(

Coasted along and pulled up. Jumped out to check underneith the car to see if I had lost fluids nope, turned her over, clunk nothin. Bummer! Whilst waiting for break down to turn up I thought I'd check oil level to find it was way past max with a oil / water combination. Damn serve head gasket failure.

Until tonight when I took the head off and found, serve lack of no 3 cylinder failure! I'll get more clearer pictures up later :)

and then i've taken some more photos tonight.

The dent in the edge looks like the rod has hit it, how is that even possible!

The turbo spins again (but is still being scrapped), and the cat had a bit of water and a few bits of metal in it that dropped out when shaken!

It is an engine purchased for about £100 around a year ago that was only needing to run for a while whilst a new more powerful engine was built up. he had turned the boost up, and we think damaged the ringlands. (it sounded very rattly) but had been fine for 2 months or so with the boost backed off again.

I thought it was a pretty impressive failure!

Reminds me of the time my newly tuned 350ci V8 blew half the innards of the Auto Box through the top of the casing....

Lad at the garage thought it might have 'blown the plastic speedometer drive cog'....

Until he filled the gearbox with oil and backed it up leaving a foot wide trail of oil....

Nothing like a catastrophic mechanical failure! :slayer:

well the old engine was out,

new one ready to go in..

then the heavens opened..

but the engine crane had to be returned the following day, so we got on with it;

that'll do.. getting there, engine and box are in - head can go on another day. i've bagged the fun task of re-fitting the turbo timer, LC1 wideband lambda and the pump wiring for the new water/air charge cooler. :D

should of put the new engine into the MGB! :slayer: it's basically an evolution of the B series in there, via the O Series! RWD fun and lotsa power:slayer:
