Maybe I'll drill a small hole in the fuelcap so the vapours can get out and the fueltank doesn't create a vacuum.

Tom

When you slow to a stop after a fast run, the cooling airflow to the engine environment ceases, and if there happens to be a localised hot spot the fuel vapourises at that point so starving the engine. Sometimes it will start straight away, sometimes you wait a few minutes and it will start, but in the past I`ve had to resort to a cold, wet cloth wrapped around the petrol pipe to disperse the vapour.

There must be something rather wrong with your car. Where do you put the cloth? The fuel pipes on my 1.6 run well away from the hot bits.

In a constant flow system the fuel would never stay in the engine bay long enough for that to happen.

Tom, I`m talking about the dark ages...........

Tom

Please could you send me a pic of ur engine.
What year is it?
I have a 1.6 and i think they changed some bits around in the mk2.
The idle air valve for one. I would be very interested to see a mk1 1.6.

thankyou

I went to the Fiat garage today. I told them what happend (engine stops), so they hooked up the computer (no costs). The computer gave only one error; the rpm sensor. The guy told me it could very well be my exhaust. A rpm sensor costs around €90,- so I'll pass on that one, since I had no more engine stops.
Just wanted to let you know :)

RPM SENSOR 1,4 12V

ITS DEFINATELY THE RPM SENSOR IT HAPPENED TO ME AS I WAS DRIVING A MOUNTAIN ROAD AND HAD TO STOP DUE TO AN ACCIDENT AND I COULDNT KEEP THE RPM HIGH ENOUGH SO AS TO START MOVING AGAIN FINALLY I GOT THAT REPLACED...

ITs THE RPM SENSOR
my car did the same as yours.........
Cost was 2000:- in swedish kronor.
Now the car goes perfect again...

engine stops

My engine kept stopping at junctions because the rpm kept dropping below stalling level.
I removed the throttle potentiometer mechanism, cleaned and lubricated everything with WD40, took up the slack in the throttle cable and it is now fine.
Try it before spending any money.

Re: engine stops

Well after a while driving with the injector light blinking and no noticeable problems then the car started doing some funky sh.. Went to get the codes read and first said RPM sensor... But another one more thorough inspection said it was the crank position sensor...so its getting that replaced on monday and hope is good after that... But what is this RPM sensor? Have never heard of it before...Was hoping it was something similar to the crank sensor...

Re: Re: Re: engine stops

HAHAHA

Thanks for the answer Tom
I was kinda guessing (hoping) they were the same thing...
Hope the car runs very smooth now... :)
Is there a general problem with Fiat and the sensors they use? Also the general exhaust system of my 1.8 after the cat is a joke...so small a pipe and incredible tight curves and then 2 boxes...yuck... but is going this week also :)

Re: Re: Re: Re: engine stops

They seem to die quite often after cambelt work. They are quite delicate and certainly after the work done on yours its not exactly a surprise.

The big problem is where they are mounted, not easy to get to!

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: engine stops

The mechanic showed me the rpm (crank) sensor last time and is not bad to remove quite easy, as long as you have a lift hehehe :) The cam sensor that is quite hard seems as it is right there in the middle of one of the pulleys...
