Hello

Earlier i was driving on the M1 doing about 65/70 and then increased speed, then the engine fault light and message came on. However it went off nearly straight away, i just caught the message after hearing the beep! This is the last thing i want with having a new engine fitted. The car is a JTD and it runs fine, pulls well.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks

Phil

MAF maybe? I had a similar problem. Cleaned the MAF and now it's ok for more than year!

if does again and think is maf you could try doing the dis-connect electric connector sat on top of maf and see if that helps,,is means of testing if maf is causing problem but as yet you only had one minor hic up which as you find makes pin pointing little more awkward may be worth look for any fault codes if you have the equipment or know someone

We have 2 1.9 td in the family and they both do it. Flashes on somewhere between 65-75mph while accelerating with the beep etc. And as quick as that it clears itself. Think its just a bug in the sytem misen. Ignore it. Ours have done it from new and we have had em 9 years now.(y)

I've just been trying to find similar topics via the search. I've come across a couple of posts mentioning 'Malfunction indicator lamp'. Sorry if a daft question but what exactly does that mean?

I'm very wary of this fault because last time it was bad news :(

I just popped to a local garage about this. The bloke said the same as you really could just be a glitch. As long as the car seems fine he said not to worry about it. I'll keep my eye on things.

if you have just had a new engine it maybe a knock sensor, you may find the engine is actually running in and a new bearing etc may just be bedding in.
i would keep an eye on it but as with all fiats they are fickle things, these faults need to be taken with a pinch of salt most of the time, i think most of us have faults flash up then vanish in a blink of an eye. one of my favs is abs warning on start up after the car has been idle for a few days - it clears as quick as it shows up.

It happened again earlier today, up a slight hill around 2.5/3k revs i would say although i didn't see the revs. Engine fault beep beep then off just as quick! Apart from the suggestions already given, does this sound like a possible overboost fault? I've been using the search on this forum and this is mentioned alot. Also the MAF too but that is fairly new and its a Pierburg make.

Thanks

Phil

Great....i need a new MAF and this one isn't even 12 months old! I've had the sensor tested with live readings, feeds and outputs etc and thats the conclusion. So its booked in to the garage who fitted it and they can sort it. So an intermittent engine fault that appears when you give the car some ooomph COULD be a sign of a faulty MAF.

Pierburg Maf? Are they standard fit on certain fiat models? As the volt readings differ slightly between them and a bosch unit on most vehicles thats why maaf kits can be bought to boost/adjust the signal

Pierburg are thought to be better and more reliable but things do change. My thoughts were there is a slight difference in volt readings or there used to be and merely swapping one make for another can give problems without certain adjustments. Working now but will get hold of a few websites that have the data later. If you do a search of the name rover ron. His site has a load of info on Pierburg v bosch and what can be done concerning Mafs

New MAF ordered for Monday! I popped down to the garage and their diagnostics also came up with the MAF. The MAF i have now was fitted end of July so not even 12 months! Anyway regarding the engine fault light i have looked at the user manual and it explains what it could be when the light stays on. However below that it reads: "IMPORTANT The occasional lighting up for brief instants of the warning light is meaningless" Thats weird because that describes my situation, so it might not be MAF related? Although two diagnostics (including a test) have confirmed a faulty MAF. However the car runs and pulls fine and yesterday driving back from York the car averaged just short of 64MPG! Can the car run fine yet have a faulty MAF? I am getting a bit of a judder on the motorway when accelerating gently and up an incline....MAF or something else? Sorry for the long post and me banging on :)

Phil

I doubt its the MAF. If you are gentle accelerating at 70 MPH, you will be calling on the turbo im sure. If it judders, then perhaps (as suggested in your other post, sorry!!) its more an injector/turbo/intercooler/boost valve issue, perhaps even MAP, have you cleaned the MAP sensor?
