If you go right down to the item description on that eBay listing they say 'contact them to check its the right bit', quoting them your reg number (and from that, they can access VIN data). Probably worth that check.

We know which corner it is

Here is where being able to read the code yourself really saves money

I would swap the sensors over, clear the codes, take it for a drive and see if the error swaps to the other side, I would have an answer as to whether the sensor was faulty without ordering any parts

Using what we have, I would start by unplugging the connector from the main harness and plugging it back in, a reseat fixes a fair percentage, a bit of damp gets in

The difficult is reading this code as it doesn’t appear on cheap OBD readers and I’m wary of spending money to diagnose at a specialist who may do the same thing you say and replace parts one by one.

Where are you based..?
