I agree with techno the amount of water that goes through the grill is amazing. I personally have taken a different view on this subject of water ingress most of the covers and seals have fallen off/disintegrated/died a natural death (705000kms in 4.3 years)its been through tropical storms in the gulf down to snow in Tasmania and all points in between and everything still works. The only thing Ive done is to use copious amounts of silicone electrical grease at every convector and taken off the wiring cover on top of the engine and wrapped the loom in insulation tape who ever thought you could put uncovered wiring in an open chamber needs a quick introduction to reality.Cheers Adam
705000km in 4.3 years! where have you been ? The moon and back!
I keep the battery covered one side ,gearbox covered , engine compartment has been wax oiled , job done
Thanks Charlie there's a few things I've found regarding the Fiat wiring over the years firstly it looks to have been designed for a 24volt system hence why the wiring is such a narrow diameter , secondly the old rule of thumb was anything approaching two ohmns resistance was an open circuit with the fiat its closer to one ohmn ,thirdly the general ignorance and apathy of fiat and their technicians towards the product when i put this new (new to me anyways 24000kms old) engine in they told me it wouldn't run as it had to be flash tuned into the body computer ( CCU or Chrysler Crash Unit ) and because the injectors were from another vehicle it wouldn't run because the engine controller ( ECU ) would be in conflict with the CCU and the world would end (LOL) Imagine their surprise when i called in with not only the engine running but the CCU disconnected they've never heard of fail safes . Likewise with the EGR missing i was told id get multiple codes ,wont run , and if it does number 4 cylinder would run hotter , turbo wont spool up , and it will blow black smoke all day long ,what can i say just more furphies .The water ingress i read so much about and the posts i read about the battery getting water over it ,if the battery in an X250 gets water over it from rain the scuttle is the last thing id be worried about because its in the passenger compartment. As for the ECU getting wet mines been wet more times than i care to remember its also just hung there from the hardware falling out after one trip down the Tanami the fuel relays are more exposed to water being in the wheel well and when the plastic guards give way guess what not only do the get wet they hang down as ive said all the guards spillways pieces of foam have long since gone from my vehicle , and the only problem ive had was when i had to remove the injectors under warranty many kms ago and were rusted in but liberal amounts of WD40 soon fixed that Cheers Adam
