Hi all,

My 2013 Ducato will start but only run idle and then stop running after around 5 seconds.
My engineer suspects EGR valve (but he is on holiday)

Does anybody have good instructions or a link to a Youtube video that could help me in accessing it?

Looking forward to your suggestions and tips!

I think the EGR is unlikely to be the cause.

An engine like this at idle for 5 seconds will only use a tiny amount of fuel (about 1 cm3), which may be just some of the residual amount in the pipes. If the ECU senses that rail (high) fuel pressure has dropped too low, it will stop injection.

I suggest you look for any causes of low fuel pressure or a restriction to fuel flow. This would include low pressure fuel pump, fuel filter and high pressure fuel pump. Check any electrical connectors to sensors or actuators (e.g. metering valve) associated with these components. The low pressure fuel pump is in the tank next to the fuel gauge sender. The high pressure pump is mechanically driven and is on the engine.

Thanks for your reply. Will start with connectors tomorrow and see if I can find somebody would could fix my camper. Any breaker that I should also check?
Idea is to go on holiday in 2 weeks, hope we can make it.
 
Hi

The low pressure fuel pump receives power via Fuse F21 (15 Amp) and Relay T10. These are both in the Engine Bay fuse/relay/connector box. See schematic.

Update; My Ducato is running again as it should.
I think I need to give the full story here.
About year ago on the highway I suddenly lost throttle. When moving to the shoulder it picked up again, however 15 mins later same thing and much worse now. This happened close to an exit so I brought her to a parking lot and called ANWB (dutch AA). Engineer arrived and car started without issues so drove home. Problem showed up maybe 3 times later but only when starting, annoying but not very disturbing. It would just run idle and not respond to throttle. After one or two repeat starts all would return to normal.
This happened again last week on my driveway and engine stalled after running for about 5 seconds. Tried multiple times to no effect.
Called AA again and engineer plugged in his diagnosis system. His analysis was that it could well be a throttle signal issue as it showed quite large voltage difference over 2 the two pot meters, however a bit unsure because the engine stalled. Engine did start once. Later tries again unsuccesful.
I ordered a new pedal but had to wait a week for delivery. In the mean time I found a used pedal, installed it and problem not solved. This morning I got the new pedal and figured that I should at least give it a try. Surprise; everything worked again!

Hi and thanks for the update, glad you are running again.

The "throttle" pedal has two potentiometers as a safety measure. All the wires go back to the ECU. If the signals from the two halves are too different, the ECU can recognise a problem with this component or the wiring and connectors. This might only show up when the pedal is pressed.

I don't know how it is programmed, but if the van isn't moving it would be safe for the ECU to stop the engine. If the van is moving, I imagine the ECU would allow the engine to run but maybe at low power.
