hi all its my first post here.
i found the forum lately and found it very helpfull.
i allready have a citroen jumper 244 jtd 2.8 2003 converted by bavaria into a camper
and i have last week purchased a ducato 244 not runnig mant to be for parts but i will try to have it run first to see the condition of the motor and transmition.
the car is cranking but does not start it feels like it want to go but cannot, there is some smoke coming out of the exost.
the seller told me that he stoped it after some white smoke was coming out.
a mechanic told him he needs a new turbo(makes no sense to me).
after i looked at the car it has no coolent and i found a big leak after
i wanted to check compression but recently understood this model has no glow plugs .
is there anyway to check compression so i dont have to dismental a possibly good motor
what are your thoughts ?

Some diesel compression gauges use the injector hole adaptor rather than a heater plug adaptor.
If no coolant then possible head gasket or cracked head :(
It is possible to use compressed air to do a leak test via the injector holes using an air line and adaptor.
You have to "lock" the engine on TDC firing stroke on each cylinder to be tested so it takes a while, but is a good guide to where compression lost, exhaust valve, inlet valve , pistons/rings, head gasket side water comes out of coolant tankl over flowing.
I have used this test many times on petrol and diesel engines, so may be worth reading up about it, if not sure.
Before getting to carried away testing it make sure the cambelt is in a usuable condition as if that breaks cam hits valves into pistons bending con rods on those Sofim engines , I have seen it!
